Please help me put this together.
What I do not understand is how the old law saved anyone? I understand that God had a system set up for them and that because of their rebelliousness he had to use these laws to teach them that they needed a new heart and that they were not sufficient to keep the laws without help. What I do not understand is whether or not the old law with its system of sacrifices was able to save anyone in the way that we can be saved now? What was the outcome of all the sacrifices and following the system set up in Exodus and then Deuteronomy. How were they saved in the OT? It is my understanding that the people that lived prior to Jesus went to hell regardless or at the very least a place called limbo where they had to wait for the resurrection to take place so that the final sacrifice of Jesus could be applied to them. Is that correct? I just don’t really understand how the OT system saved anyone.
