Couldn’t sleep all night, I have Mass in like a few hours but I seriously don’t want to feel tired in the house of the Holy Father, any advice so I will be attentive and ready for Mass?

Go to mass as normal. Pray for strength. You will be fine. Trust in God. Remember the Passion that Our Lord went through for us.

God Bless

Stop by the store and pick up some 5 Hour Energy. Good stuff. Doesn’t make you jittery.

Even if you are tired and sleepy at Mass, that’s not a sin. You can’t force yourself to sleep when you’re “supposed” to and you’re doing your best to meet your Sunday obligation. It simply isn’t your fault 🙂

Have a snooze after Mass instead and dream about angels… 🙂

Have some coffee or tea (before the one hour fast). Wash your face and neck. That wakes me up.

I believe coffee and tea are both licit, “clear” liquids that can be had even during the one hour fast. I know I rely on plan black coffee on Sunday mornings after working third on Saturday night.

No. Only water and meds for 1 hour communion fast.

Perhaps you are thinking of the day long fast for Lent.

You can also stand up in the back. It’s harder to fall asleep when you’re standing up (although I have been known to fall asleep in this position on occasion).

Hope everything went okay. Mass is only one hour and look at all the Lord went through for us during his Passion. He understands your struggles.

I’ve read a few things that said any clear liquid, then specified that “any” meant water and plain tea & coffee (no milk, cream, sugar, sweetener, flavored syrups, etc.). I’ll have to check my sources again. I thought one of them was CAF itself, but I could be mistaken.

Even on the Good Friday fast, liquid isn’t distinguished. A liquid is a liquid, whether milk, juice, coffee, water

Canon 919
  1. One who is to receive the Most Holy Eucharist is to abstain from any food or drink, with the exception only of water and medicine, for at least the period of one hour before Holy Communion.
