OK, this man claims the “rapture” will occur tomorrow @ 6:00pm.

My question is will it occur in one hour intervals starting at the international date line in the Pacific ocean and work its way westward thru each time zone on Earth?

And what about those few countries that do not participate in the international time zone systems?

This man is leading people astray in a very bad way and we should truly pray for him and his followers. He seems like a typical yet dangerous cult of personality.

We must pray that people will not be taken in by all the false doctrine that he teaches.

Can anyone help me? For some reason, this still makes me nervous. I don’t necessary believe it, but I feel like I am being too uncritical about it. We’ve written this Camping fellow off as a fool, but the same thing happened to Jesus. We say all these guys have been wrong multiple times, but they responded saying “it’s like telling the Wright brothers to give up trying to fly…”. I just keep uncritically thinking, “What if they’re right?” I know intellectually it’s all bogus (Jimmy Akin trashed it on his blog), but why does a gut feeling tell me otherwise?

Why don’t you just rely on the words of Jesus? We know we can trust Him. He said that no one knows the day or the hour. When He comes it will be like a thief in the night, when we least expect it. This is just one of many predictions that will reveal this man as another false prophet. The Jehovah’s Witnesses have tried this on more than a few occasions and have come up empty every time. They are banking (literally) on people getting nervous and finally buying into this baloney.

But I would say that if you are nervous, then it is time to get on your knees because regardless of this guy’s prediction, the end of the world for any of us could come at any moment. The question is, will you still be nervous when this all passes, or will your live your life in such a way that there is no need to be nervous. It is why I love the sacrament of reconciliation. 🙂

Well, if Jimmy Akin isn’t enough and if other people’s comments aren’t enough, how about the word of God?

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."
**- Matthew 23:36-40 **

*“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come." *
- Mark 13:32-33

I have. I went to confession and Mass this morning, and it really helped. But I sometimes feel like I have OCD and get to thinking everything should be affirmed by argument (essentially empiricism). But I know we are supposed to ignore the baseless arguments, and for some reason I always feel like I should go for arguments instead of faith. Why am I doubting?

If this will help give you some peace, Harold Camping, who is the originator of the idea that the rapture is going to occur tomorrow, made the same prediction in 1994.

Thank you…there someone goes again, injecting some common sense into a big pile of hysteria. How dare you.😛

I mean if Jesus comes back and I do have to face him, it is only the grace of God that will save me anyway.

You are doubting because you are human. But follow your faith. I actually wish that it was happening tomorrow. If you went to confession and Mass this morning I think you’re good to go and really should have no worries. I received a very different kind of penance several years ago after going to confession and I have never forgotten it. I was told “you have been forgiven - that is the easy part. Now go live like you’ve been forgiven”. If you have been forgiven, what is there to fear?

Maybe it’s because I feel intimidated or deceived. They say Catholics won’t be saved, and I know that’s not true, but why is it making me question my faith? I feel like I’m afraid of being wrong, or even worse, not actually wanting to be in heaven. I feel like this is all a ploy by the devil to cause me to doubt and sow discourse among Christians. Is this a sin?

Despair is a sin because it means that one does not really trust God. Do you believe you were forgiven this morning? Why would you be afraid? I actually feel a little funny here because I am helping to perpetuate this guy’s baloney so I’ll just ask, who do you trust more, Jesus and the Catholic Church or Harold Camping? I’m looking forward to seeing how he squirms out of this one.

Why, Jesus and His One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, or course! Thank you! I think that was the question I needed to be asked!

That’s one thing I’ve been trying to tell myself this whole time. Jesus Christ is the head of the One True Church, which I am a member of, the Body of Christ! Harold Camping is a cult leader and a false prophet who is going to lead so many people to disappointment tomorrow!

Now you’ve got it. 👍

The anti-Christ must first appear. A great book on this topic was written over 100 years ago and St. Theresa of Lisieux stated “Reading this book was one of the greatest graces of my life.”
The book was only recently translated into English. It is called The End of the Present World and The Mysteries of The Future Life by Father Charles Arminjon.

“Woe to the false prophets who run w/their tongue and say; thus sayeth the Lord. Do not be afraid of them, I did not send them.”

If you’re going to pay heed to any teacher/preacher who is not Catholic, at least pick one who is not anti-Catholic or a false prophet!

If this makes you feel better, I looked into the rapture as a protestant and realized the scriptural arguement was weak and inconsistant!

Amyways, trust the golden standard–Jesus! Last time I checked, God always kept his promises; as for Harold Camping…

LOL - I went to confession today also (but I really needed to anyway). Believe me, I know what you are saying. His book really freaked me out in 1994 though I have to say every time I have listened to him on the radio I felt he was a bit off. I was thinking today how much more attention this is getting than 1994 did, but I guess that is where the net comes in.

I think I was a different person then, more tied to the world and much more unfamiliar with the Bible. Not that I am a saint now by any means but my thought process is different, I defer to God’s will a little more. Not sure if that is where you are right now but it’s where I was. I know how the uneasiness feels, even though you know deep down its false teaching. I am very analytical also, but I don’t think using numeric arguments like he does or the Bible code stuff does any justice to the Bible. I think it takes the spirituality out of it.

Also, from checking into this guy some more, he preaches that all the christian churches are under the power of Satan and believers should flee because the gospel is no longer being preached. He, however, still preaches the true gospel.

It’s a lot easier if you actually follow what the Bible says and be prepared at all times. You are gonna have to face God at some point and chances are you won’t get a choice as to when.

PS - I DO have OCD and no, that doesn’t help !!

Where Will You Be When the World Ends on May 21?
Catholics, of course, understand that we will know neither the day nor the hour when Christ will return, “like a thief in the night.” But rather than allowing us to become complacent, that uncertainty should fill us with a certain urgency. Mr. Camping and his followers have been preparing for Christ’s return tomorrow; but **we should prepare for Christ’s return every day, through prayer and penance and good works.
When Christ does return, will you be ready to greet Him?**
If Christ calls you home tonight, will you be ready?

For me that is the more immediate question.
Christ might return in our lifetime.
Death WILL come in our lifetime.

That’s what I find so amusing. Even the angels, who are vastly superior to humans in power and intellect and actually get to behold the presence of God, do not know the date of the end of the world. But Camping does. This prediction wasn’t worthy of this level of attention, and I agree with Akin that it will bring some scorn to the cause of Christ, however unfair.
