Couple Questions regarding Authority

How so meaningful in the context of the Bible? I consider authority as a type of power. A person with authority exercises some dominion over another. This is not necessarily bad or evil.

The issue, from a Biblical viewpoint, is that the Church was “given” the authority she has by Christ. Anyone who has power, has taken it.

And authority, in this arena, strongly implies responsibility to use that authority for good rather than evil. Unfortunately, it hasn’t always turned out that way, has it?
