Because the Church has not been assertive enough to disassociate itself from the impression that Christians are all one and the same in principle. Acts to unify the religions were not careful to distinguish that firstly there is only one true Church to begin with. So then with ecumenism those who come to the table all come with doctrine they feel cannot be bargained out of an agreement.
You have religions at these table who allows these wild swings in divorce, with ministers who presides at the wedding on a 10$ license to become justice of the peace, in some city that can outdo Sodom in decadence, and so you have a recipe for confusion and disaster.
