greetings,

My dh and I learned about NFP during our weekend pre-cana class and then learned how to use it before we got married.

We have been using it for 8 yrs. now to avoid pregnancy due to serious health problems .It does require committment on both parties but isn’t that what marriage is all about.

By using NFP, we treat each w/respect and not as objects. It has strengthened our bond unlike the pill which can cause serious consequences like strokes, heart attacks, even death. Why rely on the drug companies whose only motive is profit and not on the well being of women.

You won’t regret using NFP. God Bless.

Billings method has been 100% effective for us in avoidance and 50% effective when trying to conceive (4 conscious attempts, 2 kids!). We’ve been married 6 years now.

Advantages: Not sinful (BONUS!), no blood clot risk (pill), no weight gain(pill), no chance of aborting a baby (pill, UID), no risk of persistent loss of fertility.

Disadvantages: daily check routine/chart, must abstain on the days she is most naturally inclined towards… friskyness, fewer overall eleigible days, must be careful of using certain cold/allergy meds (for mucus methods, at least).

I’m not so sure that it is NFP itself that makes healthy marriages. I wonder if it isn’t that the kind of people with healthy faith, strong conscience and good upbringing are usually the kinds of people who practice NFP and it is THAT that makes divorce so rare among practitioners.

I was a sullen and frustrated NFP user for the first year+ that we did it. It is hard to give up those days when it is ‘easy’ to get her ‘interested.’ But you learn to compensate. Wait, maybe there IS a direct connection to low divorce rates! Hmm… Worth a thought.
