My husband and I seperated after 3 and a half years of marraige (and half of a year of being married in the church) we were seperated 4 months before we were able to work things out and have now been happily back together for 3 months. I was wondering of there are any other success stories out there? What helped you to not Gove up on your marraige when the secular world said you should?

God bless you both for working on things and your marriage.

In today’s world there is nothing more important than building up society by strengthening marriages and avoiding the moral and spiritual disaster of divorce.

Cant offer any suggestions. My marriage failed in divorce. But am so very happy to hear about your success! Praise God. God bless you! Thank you!! My prayers for your future long happy life together!

Many blessings to you and your spouse for working things out 🙂

My husband and I went through a bad rough patch about 5 or so years ago. I was so done with what was going on in our marriage. I just didn’t care anymore and his behaviors were less than impecable. I took a mini vacation, by myself, and visited friends. I spent most of my time on the phone back to my husband and talking a lot of things out. I had walked away from my faith for many years and this happened when I was not living like a Christian, let alone a Catholic. We reconciled and I actually have no idea why we stuck it out. I think it was actually by the grace of God alone that this happened. Now that we are strong in our faith again, our marriage couldn’t be better.

It is just so easy within the society to call it quits and people really counsel you to move on and get out. My parents told me they would support me either way but most everyone else said leave and move on. Move on to what? Move forward and make the same mistakes? We have such a throw away society and that has even trickled down to marriage and family.

I am not great at advice but try everything to work through it all and stay together. The challenging times will make you stronger on the other end. Honest. I will pray for you both.

Hi-- I don’t post and usually just read but wanted to chime in.

My husband and I recently reconciled after being separated for almost 2 months. We’ve been back in the same house for 2 weeks. So I don’t know that we are actually a success story yet. We are taking it one day at a time. We have been married 11 years.

What has helped us to not give up? Our children and our faith. We’ve been in counseling with a Catholic Charities therapist for 8 months and continue to go weekly. Our therapist has basically kept us sane and from not running to divorce court. We also meet with our pastor regularly. There have been several times where we just about ended things. But every time we think of our children and just can’t. I wish I could explain it better. We have actually thought about telling the children (who are 7 and 10) that we are divorcing and neither one of us can do it. We look at each other and kind of say- “Back to the drawing board” and head to our therapist for more help.

May God bless you and your husband!!

I hope you dont mind me chiming in.Please read my thread above
My advice is ,.Please keep going to your Catholic Marriage Councillor, and dont stop irrespective to the consequences, until the time is right to stop going.
Its not me to tell you what you must do,but if i were in your position i wouldn’t tell the children, its only my personal opinion.

I agree. We are staying in counseling for sure. What I should have said is that we have decided to divorce before… actually made the decision and started discussing how to tell the children… and then couldn’t do it because we felt the need to keep fighting for our marriage- especially for them. We would never just discuss getting a divorce with the children. That wouldn’t be good.

as a person whose parents (one faithful, one divorced and remarried) are Catholic and divorced, thank you.

There are many fruits of divorce in my family that have had devastating effects. This isn’t to say that things don’t need to be fixed, they do. But please know that identity is forever changed by divorce. Thank you.

I agree! Counseling did wonders for us. We were able to figure out out problems and work to fix them.

Be like King Robert the Bruce,he was going to give up,till he saw the spider reach its web after seven attempts, inspired by the spider ,from there he went on to victory. This may be way off the marriage line, but it lets you see to,Keep Trying, and Keep The Faith

I honestly dont know where i would have been right now,had it not been for The Catholic Marriage Councillor,i went to him for 1 year ,2 hours counseling every Friday. He was absolutely fantastic

We never separated but went through an extremely difficult time ten years ago: bankruptcy, lost our house, had to take our children out of their private schools, serious legal issues that required us to be in court in another state every 3-4 weeks…it was awful.
Somehow we made it through and are now happier than ever.
Sometimes you have really rough patches. Sacrificial love is always necessary.
