I’m requesting prayers to help me have courage in the Lord about Birth Control.

I am a recent convert and am still learning about these sorts of things. I learned yesterday that “the pill” (which I am on) can be an abortificant.

It is very hard for me, coming from a “world” where women are “in control” of their bodies and dictate pregnancies.

I spoke with my husband last night, and he is supportive of my distontinuing use of the Pill, but he has suggested other forms of BC (i.e. condoms), which I would prefer not to use (I don’t want a barrier!).

I had previously been justifying my use of the Pill due to a recent heart surery and heart valve replacement (being pregnant during this time would put a lot of strain on my weakened heart), and also for financial reasons (I know we’d find a way, but I’d be a high-risk pregnancy due to my heart).

I am praying to the Lord to give me the courage to trust in Him with this, and to help me overcome the excuses I’ve made.

Praying for you to find an alternative for the birth control. There is a way for you to do this with some sort of temperature method but I am unsure of what it is called. Maybe someone here can tell you what it is called. There should be a class at your church that will teach you about it. Ask your priest. In the mean time I am praying for you and this situation.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

I will pray for you and that your husband will be supportive. There is an alternative called natural family planning which the previous poster refered to. Natural Family Planning is not birth control, but works with the way God created are body. If health is an issue I highly encourage you to look into it. Many parishes offer classes. May God bless you in your decisions to follow his will.

Praying for you! I have sent you a PM.

I’m praying for your heart problems too!

God Bless,
Pam

Praying for you to find a solution.

Have a good talk with a priest re BC and your circumstances…being celibate and single I am unsure of this moral area and what forms of BC are open to Catholics…I will be keeping you in prayer with Our Lady and St. Joseph and also that great theologian, St. Thomas Aquinas…

Praying for you:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Praying still.

Dana, the church is against all types of ABC (artificial birth control). Natural family planning (NFP) is acceptable, and just as effective. Here are a few resources for you:

What the Catechism says regarding:
~ sexuality: scborromeo.org/ccc/index/s.htm
~ children: scborromeo.org/ccc/index/c.htm
~ contraception: scborromeo.org/ccc/index/c.htm

The pill has many dangerous side effects that many women aren’t aware of, aside from the moral issues. Speak with your doctor regarding your heart condition.

PLEASE stop by the Family Life and Parenting forums – there are so many kind people willing to share and help explain natural family planning. Do a search and you’ll find tons of information! 👍

Praying for you that you follow God’s plan for married love and trust in Him. God bless you. :crossrc: :hug1:

Hi Dana, I don’t think anyone has posted this info. for you from the Church. It may pertain to you if you are alone in your efforts between you and your husband to follow Church teaching. God bless you.

ADEMECUM FOR CONFESSORS CONCERNING SOME ASPECTS OF THE MORALITY OF CONJUGAL LIFE
Pontifical Council for the Family (Full document here)
  1. Special difficulties are presented by cases of co-operation in the sin of a spouse who voluntarily renders the unitive act infecund. In the first place, it is necessary to distinguish
co-operation in the proper sense, from violence or unjust imposition on the part of one of the spouses, which the other spouse in fact cannot resist.
46 This co-operation can be licit when the three following conditions are jointly met: a) when the action of the co-operating spouse is not already illicit in itself;
47 b) when proportionally grave reasons exist for cooperating in the sin of the other spouse;
c) when one is seeking to help the other spouse to desist from such conduct (patiently, with prayer, charity and dialogue; although not necessarily in that moment, nor on every single
occasion).

46 “Holy Church knows full well that not infrequently, one of the parties is sinned against rather than sinning, when for a grave cause he or she reluctantly allows the perversion of
the right order. In such a case, there is no sin, provided that, mindful of the law of charity, he or she does not neglect to seek to dissuade and to deter the partner from sin” (Pius XI, Enc. Casti connubii, MS 22 [1930], 561.
