Hi! So, I am a candidate that just moved back in with Mom. She’s a Baptist, and seems to be very intolerant of anything that isn’t 100% with her beliefs. She knows that I’ve recently came back to Christ… But, I haven’t told her about my involvement with the Catholic Church. She has noticed a few clues, like the pendant of St. Patrick/St. Brigid that I wear, and (most likely, yet she hasn’t mentioned it) a Bible in my room that isn’t the NKJ translation… I know I’ll have to talk to her about it within the next couple of days, especially since she’s been pushing me to go to her church. Please pray for me to be courageous and strong in our faith, pray that I find the right responses to her questions. Also, please pray that she understands and accepts my beliefs. I have a strong feeling that she’ll spend most of her time (after our talk) trying to disprove the faith. Please pray that she finds truth while searching for lies. Any advice you have for me (or her) is WAAAAAYYYYYY more than welcome…

My prayers for you and your mother 🙂

Eternal God , in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhastible ,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us ,
that in difficult moments we might not despair
nor become despondent , but with great confidence ,
submit ourselves to Your Holy Will ,
which is love and mercy itself . Amen

Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

I would leave The Old Testament placed in your bedroom and say nothing.

Pray for your Mother through The Holy Rosary twice daily asking for Jesus and Mother Mary’s Divine Love, Discernment and Wisdom to flow through your Mother now and for Eternity.

Prayers for courage and strength for you and understanding from your mother.

Dear God,
Draw us all to Yourself. Let there be nothing between us, not even air! I know You love ALL of us. Help us to love You this way, too, and each other, knowing that You are the creator of us all and You wish for us to be happy with You forever. Give us strength to fight the battles of this life. Strength to carry our crosses. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

I would read Rome Sweet Home by Scott Hahn and/or Surprised by Truth by Patrick Madrid.

Thank you all SOOOOOO much for your prayers and advice. We haven’t talked yet, but I was able to go to the library today and pick up a few books. Unfortunately, they didn’t have ANYTHING by Dr. Hahn or Madrid, but they had a few others that I’m fixin to study. And I’m not so worried about the conversation anymore. I’ve realized that I’m firm in my faith, and I know that the Holy Spirit and I can answer anything that she challenges me with. Nobody knows 100% of the details of their church/Church, so a quick trip to a book or to CAF will surely be an available aide. Again, thank you. I’ll keep you updated!

Sooooo, an update- I’ve chickened out many many times!!! I was living with her when I wrote the original post. I started to attend RCIA classes while living there, but dropped out due to my hesitation to have that conversation with her. (If I had kept attending, I’d have had to explain to her where I was on Sundays. I"m disappointed in myself for allowing that to become an excuse!) Since then I’ve been reading, attending Mass, and praying. I’ve moved out of state and I’ve started attending St. Rita’s in Dallas. I’ve signed up for RCIA again, which starts tomorrow, and I fullly intend to be a member of the Church come Easter weekend. So the conversation is still in the future!!! I am by no means ready for it, but I have full faith that when it happens, I’ll be ready. My words most likely will not be enough to convert her, but after the conversation, I’ll have a deeper confidence in the Church. I want to thank those of you that have prayed for us, and ask that you keep praying that our souls stay open to the Lord, and that our minds stay thirsty for the knowledge that Christ and the Church provide.

Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee,
Bessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Praying for you, Growingfaith!

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
And do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
By the Power of God,
Cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits,
Who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

You and your mother have my prayers.

“Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people and hallelujah is our song.”
“I plead with you! Never, ever give up on hope, never doubt, never tire, and never become discouraged. Be not afraid.”
“If He asks much of you, it is because He knows you can give much.”

Prayer for the Help of the Holy Spirit

O God, send forth your Holy Spirit into our hearts that we may perceive, into our minds, that we may remember, and into our souls that we may meditate. Inspire us to speak with piety, holiness, tenderness and mercy. Teach, guide and direct our thoughts and senses from beginning to end. May your grace ever help and correct us, and may we be strengthened now with wisdom from on high, for the sake of your infinite mercy. Amen.
