I read this today and couldn’t believe my eyes: A man is ordered to stop fathering children for 5 years. How on God’s green earth do they expect to monitor the Court’s order? And more than that, what bearing does it have on the current Pro-life issues? Here’s the article:

In January 2013, Lorain County Probate Judge James Walther said Taylor couldn’t have more children while he is on probation for five years. The judge said the order would be lifted if Taylor pays nearly $100,000 in overdue support for his four children.

As far as I know the Ohio Appeals Court upheld the lower courts ruling. This is nuts! If he impregnates another woman, will the same Court Order force an abortion on her? Is his probation officer going to take him to the Rite Aid for Condoms? Really. This is too much.

Weird. Perhaps the order should have been that he is required to remain sexually continent until he has completed his payment?

I must be missing something – I don’t see anywhere in the article where the judge told him HOW to avoid having more children. Is there something specific about contraception I didn’t see?

Prior to WWII, the US forcibly sterilized over 60,000 citizens. It was only after seeing how far the Nazis took eugenics that they stopped the practice. Unfortunately, people have a hard time learning from history.

Is he married?
Is he married to the woman or women who are the mothers of the children?
If not, perhaps the court should have ordered him to marry the mother and be the sole support of the family.

This is a good reason for legislating civil penalties and fines for fornication and adultery.

Sorry, but I read several articles about him by following the links embedded in the first article and that’s how I found out other stuff about him. It has been going on a while now and I’m sure it isn’t the only case pending. But it caught my attention so I thought I’d share it here at CAF.

This is the exact thing the Church predicted 45 years ago in Humanae Vitae 1968…

Consequences of Artificial Methods
  1. Responsible men can become more deeply convinced of the truth of the doctrine laid down by the Church on this issue if they reflect on the consequences of methods and plans for artificial birth control. Let them first consider how easily this course of action could open wide the way for marital infidelity and a general lowering of moral standards. Not much experience is needed to be fully aware of human weakness and to understand that human beings—and especially the young, who are so exposed to temptation—need incentives to keep the moral law, and it is an evil thing to make it easy for them to break that law. Another effect that gives cause for alarm is that a man who grows accustomed to the use of contraceptive methods may forget the reverence due to a woman, and, disregarding her physical and emotional equilibrium, reduce her to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of his own desires, no longer considering her as his partner whom he should surround with care and affection.
Finally, careful consideration should be given to the danger of this power passing into the hands of those public authorities who care little for the precepts of the moral law. Who will blame a government which in its attempt to resolve the problems affecting an entire country resorts to the same measures as are regarded as lawful by married people in the solution of a particular family difficulty? Who will prevent public authorities from favoring those contraceptive methods which they consider more effective? Should they regard this as necessary, they may even impose their use on everyone. It could well happen, therefore, that when people, either individually or in family or social life, experience the inherent difficulties of the divine law and are determined to avoid them, they may give into the hands of public authorities the power to intervene in the most personal and intimate responsibility of husband and wife.

Very nice quotation. Thank you.

It is true. Take a look at the Communist’s use of forced sterilization and mandatory contraception. Their “one child” policy isn’t very far from the voluntary acceptance of the “nuclear family” model some Americans live by - that is replace yourself and your spouse and volunteer to only have two children and contracept after that but if your Catholic keep that part a secret between you and your spouse. It worked and is still actively working. Those who have more than two children are looked at as outsiders to some and if you go for a dozen you’re a anti-American freak!

It is amazing to see how right a statement like that is about modern times!!! This is not coincidence imo, I believe they truly knew what was coming eventually and this is proof of that!

It will only get worse too, public authorities will try to get their hands into our lives in anyways they can, its up to us to stop them from doing this.IMO, the CC really needs to start telling their parishioners what kinds of things they should and should not listen to and obey regarding public authority, it is getting a bit out of hand, people dont know what to do, so they just obey everything they are told…Im sure this is exactly where they like people to be too!

If it is needed, i think the guys parole or probation officer will most certainly take this guy to rite aid and buy him a big pack of condoms! Why would he not, Im sure his job is on the line too!! LOL

The US persisted doing it well into the 1960s, in 1981 Oregon completely stopped.

The judge is basically saying “Stopping having children that you aren’t supporting”. They aren’t sterilizing him or anything. He could comply with the judge’s demand by simply not engaging in sex.
