My cousin died last month. She was seventeen years old. The same age as me. I wanted to know if she could be in heaven or purgatory, so I can pray for her in case she is in purgatory. Before she died, she said she saw Jesus and Mary standing in the room with her telling her it is time to go. I have a verse of the day Bible app on my phone and the verse the day she died was
“Because you are precious and honored in My sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you and nations in place of your life.”

Could this mean she is with the Lord in heaven or is she in purgatory and should I pray for her?

I think her family is a denomination simillar to Anglican.

It is always good to pray for the souls in purgatory so if you are free to than I would recommend praying for them whenever you can. The sufferings there are quite terrible.

I never met her before but I heard she was a good religious girl and prayed a blessing over her little brother before she died

Oh Im so saddened for your loss AlexBr, I really am. I just lost my Dad almost five months ago. It’s so hard I know. I will pray for her and you.

We can never know for sure if a loved one goes straight to heaven or spends a few hours in purgatory. It sounds like your cousin is on the fast track for Heaven. We should always pray as if our loved one is in purgatory. There are endless levels in purgatory, it can be light, and it is wonderful because they are one step away from Heaven if they spend time there at all.

If your cousin is in Heaven now, and she may very well be, your prayers are not wasted. Our Lady will direct them to someone in need still in purgatory, and she is pleased to have your help.

Blessings to you all.

Thank you for your reply. I am sorry to hear about your dad and will pray for him and your family. Thank you for your prayers and advice as well.

Alex, pray for her. There is no need to try to guess if she is in heaven or purgatory. Pray for her, regardless. Your prayers will enter the treasury of merit and benefit others if your cousin is not in need of them.

I’m sorry for your loss. You should always pray for the deceased. If they don’t need it then God will just give it to a soul who is in need. Maybe it will help another relative of yours, perhaps an ancestor you never even knew.

I’m pretty sure my mother, father and husband are all in heaven now, but I continue to pray for them all anyway for the above reason.

She may very well be in heaven, but praying for her wont be a waste as it will help those in Purgatory

Prayers are never wasted. Pray for her, and for your family tree as well— all your relatives and ancestors who might have been forgotten by others, and those who are still living, so that you may all be in heaven together someday. ❤️

Final Judgment will be as it MUST BE, based upon what Jesus makes possible for every Soul to know. That can vary with each individual based on the graces OFFERED and the graces actually accepted {received}.

Absolutely DO continue to pray for her. May she REST IN PEACE!

I simply pray for my dad’s soul - he was Baptist and I am now Catholic. God knows where Dad is.

no one can tell you 100 % wether your cousin is in Heaven or Purgatory, nor can anyone ever tell you 100% how God judges and sends whom where and why. That is the big mystery of faith that we have to have so we don’t lose our minds to hysteria. I don’t there is anything any where written as cannon or dogma or what ever is the proper terminology stating if it is okay or not to pray for some kind of sign to know where someone is, but then ya gotta determine first if you are going to be able to accept the answer or not and then decide if it is worth knowing.

Though while it is perfectly fine to pray for those in purgatory ,if it turns out they are in heaven, an just an opinion, i doubt the prayers for that person are wasted, just as we ask the Blessed Mother to intercede for us an disperse our prayers where needed as God wills, the same can be done i would imagine with anyone who is already in heaven…
