Covering of church statues, etc

Hello Trad friends,

I was wondering, do parishes that practice the OF not cover their crucifix, statues and other paintings during Passiontide? My FSSP parish has had those covered since last Saturday. Just wondering. Im still learning and trying to tie together traditional Latin Mass parishes with Novus Ordo parishes is sometimes difficult in my mind. Thanks!

My local OF parish covered theirs (for the first time in my lifetime)…I think that some of the recent Mass changes are inspiring priests to adopt some of the older pious traditions.
 
My church used to, but doesn’t anymore. I visited the cathedral in Bridgeport, CT, last week and was confused, wondering what the giant purple thing hanging above the altar was :confused: until I realized it was the crucifix wrapped for lent! 😛
 
My church always has in the past but nothing is covered so far - at least not when I was at the 9:30 mass this morning…
My thinking is that it will be covered starting Thursday.
And may I say, I can hardly wait till Saturday when we can start singing the Gloria again. I miss it. Lots.

My parish does and they always have as far as I am told. That said, none of the parishes I ever attended in Memphis did this, I had not seen it until I went to an EF Parish in Florida.

Statues? An amusing concept. Our churches certainly wouldn’t bother with such medievalisms.

Yeah, because everyone knows that three-dimensional figures in church are so 13th century. Now, we have felt banners. 😉 :rolleyes:
 
We also had the image of our lady of Guadalupe covered, the icon of St Andrew, and the Crucifix removed (rather than covered)

I think this last is because the cross on which hand the corpus will be used during the veneration of the Cross on Friday.

:D:D This made me really laugh

My regular parish and all those of the area does NOT veil the statues etc. There is only a near by chapel staffed by Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate that Do veil.

In my parish this would be considered ultra old fashion and not tolerated. 🤷 Although in my home chapel the practice is to veil.
