Ah ha! We have a church here in Baton Rouge which takes the corpus off the cross and drapes the cross with a white cloth to symbolize the resurrection. Then they put a risen Jesus over the tabernacle.

Jesuit? Number one? Not in your widest imagination! I am a proud member of the last graduating class of St. Aloysius and my brother is a member of the first full all Brother Martin graduating class.
On a more serious note, both schools took heavy damage. My oldest friend graduated the year after I did from St. Stanislaus. He commuted from Gretna to here so that his third son could continue with Brother Martin’s classes at night, no less, here in Baton Rouge.

Glad to see all my fellow y’ats here. Sad they closed St. Augustine’s. When I went to St. Aloysius for eigth grade we used St. Aug’s school facilities and went to Mass on Friday’s there. While Fr. LeDoux’s choice in vestments is certainly not orthodox, I have long read his columns and enjoyed seeing the photos posted by the TP this weekend.

But what is the name of the church in the Bywater close to the river and several blocks off Elysian Fields? I can’t remember its name but it looked like it took heavy wind damage.

I think you are asking about St. Maurice. Also St.Davids in the lower 9th, took tremendous damage. Not a live oak left standing. I was down there yesterday.

Too bad about St. Augs. I enjoy Fr. LeDoux’s columns also. But His vestments arent the only thing unorthodox. You should see one of His palm Sunday “Processions” through the streets, like I did some years back. A near riot. Him mounted on A small jackass dressed like a tribal chieftan. The wrong “element” got caught up in the fun, Thinking it was A Second line. Drinking,shouting,cussing, smoking (not cigarettes) a big ol mess.

It had twin steeples, both looked heavily damaged, Qui - probably St. Maurice. I hadn’t heard about the Palm Sunday procession but I can see it in my mind’s eye all all too clearly. There was an African American funeral parlor right across the street from St. Aug’s. The brothers used to let us out of class when they had funerals. I saw many a jazz funeral. A lost world, I suppose. We didn’t have a/c back then so you could hear the banana man passing in the streets, the bells of the Cathedral, the ferry horns…it was certainly interesting going to high school at the edge of the Quarter.

hmmm - I just realized we don’t use the processional cross during Lent, and we haven’t said the Creed either the past couple weeks on Sunday. Is this correct?

The processional cross should be used, don’t understand that, but the creed…the only thing I can think on that, is that perhaps you had a Rite of Sending for Catechumens or something? In that case the priest will conduct a question/answer scenario instead of the Creed (“Do you believe in God the Father Almighty…Do you reject Sin”…etc.) Other than that, it should never be omitted…of course Priests are People too, and I have been at a couple of Masses where a visiting priest and once our own pastor, actually forgot, because of a crying baby, or something else happening…

For the last few years, a woman has draped a white cloth around the crucified body of Jesus on the feast of the Ascension, I think. It is draped around his body so that his body is still visible, but the cloth hangs off his body, mainly the hips.

This is done to the crucifix that stands right behind the altar in the sanctuary.

So it looks as though he’s trailing bandages?

We use a large cross (6’x3’) for the veneration on Good Friday and it remains in the church, draped in purple until the Vigil, then draped in white until Pentecost.
