My coworker is getting married after Christmas, and I’m concerned. Her and future hubby plan to continue living in separate residences and using separate bank accounts. The two of them are having sex and contracepting, and neither of them wants any children together. She will add him to her health insurance in hopes of getting his planned post-wedding vasectomy paid for. She plans to undergo tubal ligation. FI already has an 11 year old son from a previous marriage.

In October, coworker took a vacation with FI, the son, and grandma to Disneyworld. When she returned, she complained that the boy was annoying, but luckily she and FI reserved a separate hotel room far away from the boy/grandmother. This trip reaffirmed her and FI’s decision to live separately because, “we need a place to go and escape!” A few weeks later, coworker and her FI found the boy on an internet porn site depicting “teachers” with middle school boys! As punishment, Dad revoked son’s (previously un-monitored) internet access. There was no discussion about proper sexual relations, etc.

A few times, the boy has wandered into Dad’s room late at night and found coworker lying there (luckily she was under the blanket …). She wants to teach the boy that sex is for marriage – thus the wedding date was set. She’s decided that she isn’t ready to be a mom and the boy isn’t ready for her to be his mom either.

I’m worried about this situation and have been praying for her and her future family. Hopefully marriage will soften her heart towards the child. I know she had some really rough times growing up (her parents died when she was young) and may still be dealing with that. She’s mentioned wanting to find a new church, but her FI is adamantly anti-religion. I want to reach out to her more, but how? We live an hour apart and only see each other at work. It’s emotionally and mentally exhausting to carry on a conversation with her. I’m glad that she seems to be happy, but I don’t know what I can/should do for her …

Sorry this is so long. If you made it this far, prayers for my coworker and her future family are greatly appreciated.
