Cradle or Convert?

I was curious how many Eastern Catholics here were raised as such and how many converted. By converted I don’t mean that you were previously in the Roman Catholic Church, but that you were not Catholic. For those of you who converted, can you talk a bit about your background and what led you to make that decision? Did you consider Orthodoxy, and if so what were your reasons for Eastern Catholicism instead? Thanks!
 
Well, I’m neither because I was Roman Catholic (canonically, I still am, but who cares? :D)
 
Here’s my reply from a similar thread (“Converts (Not Canonical Switching) to Eastern Catholicism”): Long story short–My wife is ByzCath raised in the Roman church. I was(am) a Jew. Went here emmitsburg.net/grotto/ one day, stood in front of a statue of the Theotokos, and that was that! Converted to Catholicism in the Ruthenian Rite. Spent some time in the “desert” 👍:D;) of Orthodoxy, and then came back “home” to the Catholic Church. We now worship in a Roman Catholic parish. I feel equally at home there as in a ByzCath parish, and love them both immensely. Go figure! 👍

However, my mom was raized RC, so her side of the family are all practicing RCs. We were always the “ugly stepchildren” …
 
I became a Eastern Catholic because I love the way the Orthodox traditions include incest, icons, no filioque and no real opinion on purgatory. The reason im Eastern Catholic is because of the significance of peter in the bible which leads me to believe in the teaching of papal infallibility.

Plus Its the best of both worlds imo, Eastern-rite teaching and u have the right to get communion in a roman catholic church as well, so if you want to experience a different culture in the church u can attend a latin-rite church and still get the same treatment as u would in your eastern catholic church
