If you crash landed on an island with local natives isolated from the known world, and were allowed to have two books from the Bible with you, which two books from the Bible would you want to have with you? :love::blushing::juggle:

I would want the Gospel of John and the book of Romans with me.

As long as one of them was Exodus . . . . .

I would take:​

  • Genesis - to show that God is alone the Sovereign Creator of all things
  • Romans - to show what sin is, and what God has done to remedy it
After them, I would take Psalms & Revelation. If you have Paul, you have the Gospel. 🙂
If I could take only one book of any kind on earth, I think I know which it would be.
 
For those who have yet to post the two books from the Bible that you have on the island, please let us know which ones that you would take. For those who have posted your two books, you are welcome to trade them in for different ones after you read my next question.

You mean I can’t just give them the two books and leave them to their own interpretations 😛

I would still keep the two books I originally chose.

John: I would explain to them the Passion of our Lord and also the bread of life discourse found in John 6.

Revelation: I would talk about the context in which the book was written in and assure them that what the anti-Catholic island across the sea told them about the Pope and Revelation was not true. I would then tell them to completely ignore that island.

Genesis: The story of the beginning of how everything was made by the One True God and everything in it points to the Coming of a Savior for the whole world.

Revelation: Speaks to the Second Coming of that Savior who will live here as King of kings and Lord of lords.It is the story of the ending and the new and ever lasting beginning of eternity with a world made new again and a King Jesus.

I’d take my glasses so that i could actually see the natives. And a pack of playing cards. So that i could actually see the cards.
 
Genesis because it tells us whether the covenant was with Ishmael or Isaac:
"Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety? And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under your blessing! Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. And the Gospel according to John because there are some important quotes for Jesus, such as:
(John 8:58 ):
*"Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” *

(John 6:38):
“For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.”

(John 8:23):
"But he continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.”

I"d take the front and and back covers, They’d come in handy as a hat.

I suppose one of the Gospels, probably John, and most likely Jeremiah. If I’m going to be marooned for the rest of my life, I may as well read about a kindred soul.

Definitely not the Song of Solomon.

The natives probably being cannibals, I don’t suppose I’d tell them about becoming fishers of men.

To keep busy…saiboard (I’m still learning, mostly falling off) and cigarette lighter to start fires.
 
Okay… the story continues. By divine providence, you guys are the missionaries which God designed you to crash land on this island. I guess the local natives are part of the elect, because God has brought missionaries to their isolated island. And guess what… I am the Chief of the natives on the island. I have had no contact with the known world. Because God is so good, we speak the same language. So, what would you like to tell me and my people about your God? Please stay within your two Bible books if you can.

 
This thread is so sad. We all know that there is a huge loophole in the whole heaven/hell process in which ignorant people don’t need to worry about hell. After all, it would hardly be fair for the these natives to burn in hell for all eternity just because no missionary had stopped by.

So now you want to tell them about god and end up sending most of them (and their descendants) to eternal torture? What is wrong with you people? If it was up to me then the only book you would have would be a cook book. Perhaps one titled “To Serve Man”. With lots of pictures.
 
Gospel of John and Acts of the Apostles, which contains a summary of OT history, quotes Psalms and prophecies, and details the beginning of the church, with the context of most of the epistles.
As for the security of the ignorant, no, they only get a free pass if they have spent their lives earnestly seeking truth with full sincerity and all their hearts and have not knowingly committed a mortal sin after the age of reason (and the conscience can know what the intellect doesn’t know), and have full real contrition for every sin. Even then, they don’t get the Beatific Vision without a baptism. The Gospel is a bonus. With it, and the sacraments, people get forgiven more and the vision of God with the deal. It’s a good deal.
I think I also like the Book of the Acts of the Apostles because it talks some about desert island survival and escape.😃

The two books I’d bring: the Bible and the Catechism. :D:p

That way, I could be a messenger of the entire truth.

To play by your rules I’d just bring Genesis and the Gospel of John.

And I’d teach them Tradition too. 😉

Now if I could have two books *in addition *to the Bible I’d take the Philokalia and the Ladder of Divine Ascent.

Gospel of St. John and Psalms… No doubt reading and praying the psalms would encompass all human emotions and St. John all the promise and beauty of Christ.
