If you crash landed on an island with local natives isolated from the known world, and were allowed to have two books from the Bible with you, which two books from the Bible would you want to have with you?:blushing::juggle:

I would want the Gospel of John and the book of Romans with me.
When someone asked GK Chesterton what one book he would want to have along if stranded on a desert island, he paused only an instant before replying, “Why, A Practical Guide to Shipbuilding, of course.”

Ha, ha ha! :rotfl: Now why didn’t I think of that?

From your two books, what do you want to tell me…

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Tell me about your God…

I would tell them that this God is the God that says His name is “I AM” and He alone is God. He brought everything into existence from nothing.

I would tell them about Eden and Adam and Eve and how they runied it all. And even though they had to leave the Garden, God sacrificed the life of a animal for clothing to keep them warm and for food until they could provide for themselves.

I would tell them that we were made in His Image. And all of the stories of genesis points to the ulitmate birth of His Son, our Savior. To redeem us for the sins committed by Adam and Eve.

From revelation I would tell them that this is the Savior’s testimony to a man named john who knew Him while He lived, died, and rose again. I would tell them that it lays out the final seven years before this Savior returns to rule from Jerusalem. I would warn them that , while God knows that much evil lives in many hearts, and that this is why there must be judgements sent to rid the world of these evil ones. How so many of the “churches” went astray but not all.

But the Good News is that there is still time. God loves them and gave us all to His Son. Not one of them has to suffer tribulation here on earth during the judgements nor in the afterlife. They can have perfection. And see God’s Face.

We are pretending that you guys are Catholic Missionaries who landed on an island full of pagans who worship Pele the volcano God, as well as many other pagan deities like the Moon God, Sun God, and Shark God. I am the Chief among the pagan natives. Your mission is the save the elect pagans since God caused you to crash on the island to bring Christ to the natives. We are changing the rules; therefore, you can use whatever sources you want to save the natives on the island. So, please tell us pagan natives about your God in your own words.

We worship Pele the Volcano God. We appease her with human sacrifices. Is you God bigger than Pele?

When you visit Hawaii, you become keenly aware of volcanoes. All of these islands owe their existence to volcanic activity. Their ancient culture revolved around the volcano gods. First and foremost of these gods was the Volcano Goddess Pele who lived inside the volcano Kilauea. Pele was not your typical goddess. Fiery, jealous and voluptuous, Pele spent a great deal of her time taking on lovers. After they were spent, she disposed of them by covering them with balls of molten lava. She turned them into stone, creating an entire landscape of former lovers frozen like trophies for the rest of time.

Pele had two great rivals. One lover who proved a match for Pele was Kamapua’a, a demi-god who hid the bristles that grew down his back by wearing a cape. This pig god could also appear as a plant or as various types of fish. He and Pele were at odds from the beginning; she covered the land with barren lava, he brought torrents of rain to extinguish her fires and called the wild boars to dig up the land, softening it so seeds could grow.

Pele’s greatest rival was Poliahu, the goddess of snow-capped mountains. Poliahu was the Ice Queen, a beauty who, like Pele, seduced handsome mortal chiefs.

Pele’s jealousy flamed after she had a fling with a fickle young Maui chief named 'Ai-wohi-ku-pua, as he was traveling to the Big Island to court a mortal female chiefain named Laie (surely there is a pun here just begging to be used). Paddling along the Hana Coast, 'Ai-wohi-ku-pua saw Pele in human form as a beauty named Hina-i-ka-malama, riding the surf. He paused for a brief affair.

Then he went on to the Big Island, where Poliahu seduced him. He convinced his personal goddess to release him from his promise to his first love, and went back to Kaua’i with the snow goddess. Pele (disguised as Hina-i-ka-malama) chased after them, eventually winning back the fickle chief by seducing him on Mount Kamana-eye-wanna-Laie-a.

However Poliahu was so vindictive, she blasted the lovers with cold and heat until they separated. In the end, 'Ai-wohi-ku-pua was left with no lover at all.

As I read these tales, I was reminded of Zeus from Greek Mythology. I always thought Zeus held the record for randy behavior, but these wild Hawaiian goddesses were pretty bawdy in their own right.

We worship Pele the mighty Volcano Goddess on this island. I am Chief! Why is your God the only true God? What is your God like? Is He an angry God? Does He like human sacrifices too? Pele is pleases with human sacrifice; it appeases her anger of fire and lava. Tell me more about this Adam and Eve and how they ruined it all.

We are pretending that you guys are Catholic Missionaries
Why just Catholic missionaries? What do you have against Protestant missionaries? :hmmm:
I am the Chief among the pagan natives.
This explains why they are still stuck on the island. 😛 just kidding ya
Your mission is the save the elect pagans since God caused you to crash on the island to bring Christ to the natives.
I do not save anyone. Christ alone saves… for there is no other name under heaven…

Okay, then I would hand them this tract:

catholic.com/library/pillar.asp

God bless you

I would tell them that no matter how beautiful they see their island, Eden was so much more beautiful, as beautiful as the place where God lives, for Eden means heaven on Earth.

There was no need to eat meat for all the living creatures ate of the produce of the garden. There was no need to kill.

Adam and Eve were supposed to live forever. They would walk in the shade of the garden with God Himself. All they had to do is not eat the fruit of a certain tree. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Along comes Lucifer, the magnificent angel in the form of a snake. Lucifer was jealous of God and wanted to be above God, which can never happen as there is only one God. And he was jealous of man because man was made in the Creator’s Image and angels were not. Angels were created to serve and man was created to love God.

So Lucifer convinced Eve to eat the forbidden fruit and she convinced Adam and so sin entered into the hearts of all mankind for we are all decendents of these two.

I would warn them that lucifer comes in many forms to confuse mankind. he came to them in the form of the goddes and thus caused them to have to sacrifice their loved ones and endure so much pain and suffereing.

But this God is a loving Father. Yes He required just One Sacrifice, a Blood offering of a perfect lamb. But there is no perfect lamb. The perfect Lamb had to be born to a woman named Mary. God made Himself into a human .

Why?

Because God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son to die, to be the perfect Blood sacrifice once and for all.

How great a God is that!

But the story is yet to be finished. For not all evil has been wiped from the hearts of men. So This Same Jesus will return. And He told an angel to tell a man named John just how it all will happen before He finally makes everything new again. John wrote it all down. word for word.

Just so everyone can be with Him forever. We are warned. We have a sure hope.

John’s Gospel and Paul’s Letter to the Romans…with one hell of a lot background explaining to do…

I would also search the Bible for sections about cannibalism encouraging the natives to avoid using me as a buffet

This thread is so sad. We all know that there is a huge loophole in the whole heaven/hell process in which ignorant people don’t need to worry about hell. After all, it would hardly be fair for the these natives to burn in hell for all eternity just because no missionary had stopped by.

So now you want to tell them about god and end up sending most of them (and their descendants) to eternal torture? What is wrong with you people? If it was up to me then the only book you would have would be a cook book. Perhaps one titled “To Serve Man”. With lots of pictures.
Well, you can give a more positive balanced outlook and tell them they’re just compost filling in time, and will become nothing more than food for worms or fish.

And if they suffer grave injustices, there will be no comeback, no righting of wrongs, and they’ll just have to cop it sweet. If pirates come along and slaughter the children and wreak havoc amongst the women, that’s just too bad. It’s no use hoping they’ll get any sort of justice.

And when they ask you, “How do you know there’s no God?”, you can reply with your infinite wisdom, “Just trust me. I know there’s no God. I’m your final authority.”

Thanks for playing along. If you are Protestant, you can be a Protestant missionary. Since I created this thread, I get to modify the rules. 🙂 The natives speak English, but they cannot read; therefore… the tract is not good on the island. I agree God saves, but He saves through us. Please try to share your Catholic Christian hope as a virtual reality missionary with your own words. You might get ideas from the book of Acts such as Acts 17. Since you crash landed with Catholic and Protestant laity, there is no Priest to provide the Eucharist. I believe Catholic laity can still baptize the natives.

The Catholic Priests who are missionaries are on the other side of the world. Therefore, the only hope for the natives on this island is you! Faith comes by hearing…

“Come into my village and tell me more of your God. I like your God. Is your God pleased when we kill our enemies and eat them?” What do you mean that God made Himself to be a human? I am God on this island!" - Chief of the Island

*… on a personal note, my family tree runs three generations deep through Hawaii. 🙂 - 2nd Adam

Oh, and my second book would be the Song of Solomon if I were not a married man. I’d use it to woo a pretty islandress and she, the “unbelieving wife,” would be “sanctified by the husband.” Now that’s social gospel! 👍

I’d bring Ecclesiastes and two crates of bourbon.
“Are you planning on sharing the Bourbon with my people? Here have some poi and fish. Tell me about the book of Ecclesiastes and what God has to say to my people.” - Chief of the Island

“Tell you what, chief. Build me a boat, give me a crew and I’ll give you all the rest of this bourbon.”

I sailed here from a land thousands of times bigger than this island, where there are no volcanoes. Pele has no power there. Instead the sea rises and the land rises in return. The land goes on until it is as dry as the lava under a firepit, and stretches so far on every side that animals die for want of water. Mountains as high as twenty volcanoes rise up in ridges wider than a wave in the open main. And the forests on the mountains live when the ground is as crystallized as a vein of fine salt, with water frozen into great clouds as high as the walker’s eyes. The trees outlive the cold for a hundred years. And Pele is not living there. But no one can live without the God Who created it all.
Pele does not live there. But our God lives everywhere.
Our God is God of all.
Our God came as a baby no bigger than a piece of salt, as we all do, inside a woman. She needed no human sacrifices to conceive, for God favored her. Her baby is still alive after dying, and in so doing He offered to us a new life, one that goes on forever like crests traveling the sea that fall and rise again. We also can rise together one day after dying and then we will be in a world even more bautiful than this island, where there is no death and no suffering.
For more information, come and visit my hut and hear a chapter a night of the two books I have brought.
