Wrong daughter… I’ll give you a hint. Her parents WANTED to name her after Naomi’s daughter in law but they spelled it wrong. Which is why she has a very unique name.
Oprah Winfrey???

Actually, in the Catholic version of the Bible, Esther does mention God.

Esther 14:3 (or C15)
She prayed to the Lord God of Israel, and said: “O my Lord, you only are our king; help me, who am alone and have no helper but you.”

Anybody know why the Catholic version is different?

I really need to get one by the way… I’m hoping to “come home” next Easter! :o

The Catholic church codified the Bible in the 4th century. It stayed intact that way until the reformation. The reformers (1200 years after the fact) decided to go with the Jewish canon’s of the Old Testament instead of the original Apostolic canons. Their reason’s are varied I would suppose, but fact is, the Jewish canons were not codified until 100 AD, after Christ came and Christianity was founded. Before the canon’s were codified, all 73 books were in use by christians and all the codified books of the OT were also used by Jews.

Curiously, the Jewish faith, has retained as Tradition, many of those very canons which they rejected.

So, instead of 73 books which the Catholic Church has always had, the Protestants cut it down to 66, removing the 7 books and some parts of others(Esther for example is shorter in the Protestant Bible), which the Jews decided not to use in their canon.

Where is Esther 14? In my Bible (NIV) Esther only goes up to chapter 10. :hmmm:

Interestingly enough, chapter 14 should fit between chapters 4 and 5 in order to be in context. When Jerome translated the Bible, though, he put the Greek additions at the end of the book. When Stephen Langton divided the book into chapters, he numbered them consecutively as though the additions were a direct continuation of the Hebrew text.

For sure! And people say Catholics don’t know their Bibles!
They just don’t understand our method… 😃 We hear the Gospel, we study the gospel and learn the gospel at Mass. We listen, we learn what we hear everyday, 365 days a year. The whole Word of God, with correct apostolic teaching and we memorize that way.
We take the daily gospels and apply them to our lives daily… 😉

Ok, more questions…

Who was the first martyr? (are my questions too easy by the way?)
