1) like trees in the forest blown by the wind

Isaiah 7: 1-2
1 In the days of Ahaz, king of Judah, son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, Rezin, king of Aram, and Pekah, king of Israel, son of Remaliah, went up to attack Jerusalem, but they were not able to conquer it. 2 When word came to the house of David that Aram was encamped in Ephraim, the heart of the king and heart of the people trembled, as the trees of the forest tremble in the wind.

Correct! 👍

Annunciata:
Blood
Hebrews 9: 19-22

19 For when every commandment had been told to all the people by Moses in accordance with the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the scroll itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant that God has ordained for you.” 21 And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship. 22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
👍 Correct!

Who killed both the king of Israel, and then shortly thereafter slew the king of Judah?
  1. Amaziah
  2. David
  3. Athaliah
  4. Jehu

Grace and Glory:
In what town was David anointed king of Judah?
Hebron

(2 Sam. 2:1-4). David and his men now set out for Hebron under divine direction. There they were cordially welcomed, and he was at once anointed as king. He was now about thirty years of age.

Marie,

The man’s name was Skeva, Acts 19:13-16.

A quick curious question. How many of the rest of the regulars on this thread are converts? I am.

My question:

Who killed a lion on a snowy day?

I’m a convert 42 years Sept 28th

My answer: Benaiah
2 Samuel 23:20
20 Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, a stalwart from Kabzeel, was a man of great achievements. It was he who slew the two lions in Moab. He also went down and killed the lion in the cistern at the time of the snow.

This is a different kind of question…

In the book of Proverbs, 18:19.
“A friend helped by a friend is like a strong city…” (have only found it worded this way in the Septuagint) but this is how it was said to me in SD the other day and I am to reseach it…it seems that it could have different meanings. Please share yours…

The obvious meaning is that a friends strengthen each other. The analogy of a strong city alludes to walls and battlements. One thing that protected ancient cities was having battlements set close enough so that no attack could occur at one place without being vulnerable to defenders from down the wall.

We have a similar situation where I work. When we have to physical handle a violent person, we have multiple people take charge of individual body parts of the person. If I take hold of the left arm, for example, I am vulnerable to being struck by the left, or kicked. I control the left arm to protect the others with me, not myself. If they do the same, no one gets hurt.

By the same token, we are often blind to our own faults, while being able to see more clearly the faults of others. Good (and confident) friends can turn this to their advantage by holding each other accountable in areas of weakness.

Just my opinion on it.

I’m a cradle Catholic, so not a convert.

As far as “A friend helped by a friend is like a strong city”:
I like pnewton’s example of handling a violent person.
I also think of it in terms of spiritual strength. Sometimes, when I read about a certain city and what happens to it in the Bible, I see how it is kind of like my own soul. There’s a passage in Maccabees that struck me this way. I think that when we have friends to help us, good friends who want to help us grow spiritually, it is like an added fortification in our battle against the devil. It makes us spiritually stronger and more resistant.

I’m a cradle Catholic, so not a convert. I will be on our church’s RCIA team next year, though, so I’ll have been involved in RCIA. I’m really excited by it. Being around converts always humbles me.

Sorry for the double post. For some reason posting hasn’t worked well for me on these forums recently. On the bright side, it does increase my number of posts per day.

Okay…here’s mine…

I was discussing my time spent on CAF w/ my spiritual director as to whether or not it was a good thing… I was given this Proverb to reflect upon and this is what I came up with…

“A friend who helps a friend is like a strong city” was meant for me to reflect upon friendship and it’s meaning to me in helping to build up the Body of Christ, the Church.

It then occurred to me that an old hymn I used to sing in the Baptist church, “What a Friend We Have In Jesus”, is indeed that “Friend” who helps me be a friend to all here at CAF sharing my knowledge of the Faith and my life’s experiences in trying to live it …trying to help those in need of answers as they in turn have helped me…

Correct! 👍

I’m a cradle Catholic…born and raised knowing scripture the old school Catholic way. 😉 Mass 365 days a year and the entire Bible with teachings at the end of the yearly liturgical cycles. I listened and learned. Many people don’t seem to realize that Catholic’s at Mass receive the Holy Word of God daily and always have. And they learn through the Sermon about each reading.

I got my first Bible when I was Baptized at age 2 weeks. I finally stopped teething on the Bible and actually began to read at around age 5. 😃

I wish I had a nickle for every Catholic or Protestant who say’s “Catholic’s don’t read the Bible.”

I just want to smack the Catholic ones up along side the head! 😃 Obviously they were sleeping during mass or just generally not there.

The Protestant’s…I can understand their ignorance on the subject though. Protestant Bible Study is differnet than the way a Catholic learns scripture.

Thank God for our many wonderful converts who are finally helping the deaf and sleeping Cafeteria Catholics learn what they should have known all along.

Convert’s are bringing the faith alive for everyone. 👍
