Creating a Lay Catholic Order

To My Fellow Catholics:

It is my intent that, once I complete my time in service in the armed forces, I will create a lay Catholic order focused upon an apologetic and charitable mission. Utilizing the sciences in addition to Theology and Philosophy, we shall utilize those precepts secular society considers invaluable to provide concrete evidence for the existence of God and the validity of the Faith.

For example, it is not a well known fact, but it was the Belgian Catholic priest Georges Lemaitre who first discovered the expansion of the universe, two years before Hubble observed it in the night sky. This discovery points beautifully to God’s endless love, His infinitude, and the “good” of creation, or the act of creating.

I am beginning to compile a rule, contact my spiritual director, and publish periodically commentaries online as a virtual journal of my process. It would be most appreciated if the forum’s members contributed their opinions, advice, and questions as I formulate my thoughts.

Hi Andrew!

Greetings in Christ. I would have thought that the Lay Dominicans already have an apologetic and charitable mission. Is there a particular reason why you wish to establish a new lay order? (Of course, I am not a Lay Dominican, but a Lay Carmelite, so I am not familiar with the way Lay Dominicans fulfill their mission.)

You are correct in that the Lay Dominicans have both apologetic and charitable functions, yet after viewing their website I fail to see how they proceed in the mission. I fear that apologetics may be limited to casual conversation, while my Order’s intent is more social in scope. Debates, open, public ministry, and rallying the conglomerated groups in the Church towards a more unified whole to “Restore All in Christ” are the Order’s chief focus.

However, I am grateful that you mentioned the Lay Dominicans, as contacting their heads would benefit the formation of the Order.
