Well Mason, we will agree to disagree. You paint with one broad stroke all companies who offer credit counseling. I believe this is unfair because the majority of companies are legitimate and helpful.

As for creditors and hardship programs, yes they do offer them. However, many are short-term such as a 6 month reduction in interest rate, whereas through credit counseling it can extend out much longer. I have a friend who was burned by a “hardship” program because it was short term, and then they were not eligible for any other program because they had already used up their “chance” through the hardship program.

I am not advocating that anyone go into credit counseling, bankruptcy, or any other program without doing research, but I think that websites like the one you posted are people with an ax to grind, and they don’t tell the whole story-- same as “former catholic” websites being taken as the way Catholicism really is.
