credit crunch

Anyone else a victim here? DH has been working for a startup for a year. Boss just declared personal bankruptcy. We don’t know from week to week whether we will get a paycheck. We’ve been attempting to get hired for a different job for over a month now. It’s subcontracting for a gigantic corporation, and I think their hiring is on hold because of all the uncertainty right now.

Anyhow, some days I can’t help crying, and some days I just feel fine (some form of denial?).

Wondering how your families are dealing with tough times, and any advice for how to be supportive to your spouse. How do you be real about your feelings without demoralizing the family? How do you keep a reasonable head about you?

Yup… one of our companies had a not so nice take over just last week because of all this… I was wondering who was gonna have jobs and who was gonna be friends with who when it was all done. There was alot of hurt feelings and personal devastation with the major investors.

It hasn’t directly hit us yet. DH is a service manager for a big car dealer and fortunately for us (and unfortunately for others) times like these don’t keep cars from breaking. But bil is a car salesman for the same dealer and it sounds like things are not going well for that dept. at all. Who knows, we could wind up with houseguests all over again…

Over the years, DH and I have been through some very, very rough financial times. There’s times I only had 30 bucks to buy a weeks worth of groceries. The best advice I can pass on is to tell Jesus you put it in His hands and Trust in Him! He has never, ever let us down. Ever.

I work for a financial company on the commercial real estate side. We just took 10% paycuts, lost our 401k matches in January, and so far our company has laid off a lot of people [mostly on the residential side].

It is a huge Fortune 200 company. We’re just feeling it. It is tough when you have no idea if you are going to have a job every Friday [the day they always announce layoffs].

I’m just praying a lot, and we’re saving. Luckily, the only debt we have is one student loan of Nathan’s, so we’re not paying anything down really. It is still stressful. I am watching our ING savings accounts make less and less interest each week it seems.

How so? If the owner was bankrolling the company at one point and is out of cash, and he can no longer get credit, he files for bankruptcy.

It was a startup.

I went through a period of time, right after 9/11, I had no job, bills were piling up, credit cards were full, no one was hiring and we became just so overwhelmed, but we kept praying, as best we could. Some days you do better than others.

Over that time there were so many jobs “I thought I’d be perfect for”. Finally, I got an interview, ended up getting the job. What God finally did for us/me was to guide me to a job that was “perfect for me”.

I still have trouble trusting in God, and I think that’s what some of this boils down to. HE wants our full and entire trust. God works in his own time, and HE wants more for us than we could ever imagine for ourselves.

The other thing I’d like to mention, and this seems to be easier for me to believe, is that the Bible tells us that God is taking care of our needs “today”, and that we should not worry about tomorrow, He will take care those needs tomorrow. (paraphrased, anyone with the scripture please chime in).

Heavenly Father, please comfort your dear daughter Nicole, her husband, and all those that need gainful employment in these troubled times. Please guide them as needed and take care of their daily needs as I have faith in You that You already are. I ask this in the name of Your Son Jesus. Amen.

(Father, I ask you to please guide Al to a job with meaning. And I pray for all those considering abortion, that You wil give them the strength to carry their babies full term, and consider adoption if they can’t care for a child. Amen Father.)

That’s pretty much the case.

Luckily another investor took over the business a few months back, but they still can’t make payroll. (Honestly I don’t understand how everything is set up.)

It’s maybe not the credit crunch per se, but the downturn in the economy. We’re in Florida, so everything here tanks with real estate/building.

I have few expenses to pay out of my pittance of a SS check, so I’m doing okay. My 401k is shot, though. I was leaving it along until mandatory withdrawal age in the hope that it would grow. Looks like that’s not going to happen. I had no plans to use it but I’m sure my kids were looking forward to getting something when I make my exit.

Oh. My husband is in the Mortgage Business, and we have been feeling it for a while.

Our finances are SO bad. It is hard.

Luckily I work in two industries not effected yet by the downturn but things will eventually hit us along with everything else if the markets don’t improve. I’m only thankful my employment is firm for right now. I’m not getting rich but I’m eating and able to pay my bills which is a blessing right now.
