Keep in mind that the Creed used in the Orthodox Church is not the “original” Greek Creed even if in Greek. The Council of Constantinople deleted the final anathema and the “God from God” original to the Nicene Creed. The clause “God from God, light from light, true God from true God” was reintroduced in the West after the Council of Constantinople. Interesting.

Personally, I think we should not dwell much on the political issues currently separating East and West. I would rather focus on the fact that despite our different outward expressions we profess the same ultimate reality. I also prefer to join my prayer with those East and West who seek to heal the wound of division in the Church.

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker [of heaven and earth, and] of all things visible and invisible;

The following is not part of the Creed but, rather, a final anathema against Arianism. The following is still accepted as orthodox Catholic teaching:

And those who say “there once was when he was not”, and “before he was begotten he was not”, and that he came to be from things that were not, or from another hypostasis or essence/substance, affirming that the Son of God is subject to change or alteration these the catholic and apostolic church anathematises.
