Creed Every Day?

Why isn’t the Creed required to be said at every Mass? This was a question someone asked in RCIA class this morning. We thought perhaps it was because we are not required to attend Mass every day, only on Sunday (or Mass of Anticipation). Nobody knew exactly why, only that it was not required during the week.

I have heard that a Greek bishop during the middle ages, becoming aware that the Nicean Constantinopitan creed (Symbol of Faith) was only sung on Sundays in Western litugy, asked why. In East the Symbol is sung during many services including all Divine Liturgies. Latin Bishop said that there was little need to repeat creed often since Roman Church was so littled troubled by heresy.

Perhaps time has come. Repetition helps.

Could it be the remnants of the Low Mass being said during the week and the High Mass being said on Sunday. Correct me if im wrong, for I am post vatican II, maybe it is not said in the Low Mass.???

My understanding was that the Niceen Creed was said on Sunday, and the Apostols Creed said during the week.

Nope High Masses could be said during the week,and were usually said daily at cathedrals and monasteries, becuase of the large number of priests/deacons/altar boys. Low Masses on sunday also have the Creed said in them. Usually only feast above a certain rank have the creed said.

The basic rule is that the Creed is said on Sundays and Solemnities(major feast days). It should not be said on days where a memoria is ssid for a saint, or a feria e.g. Our lady on Saturday.Of course, there are some priests who make their own rules.
