The last few Sundays my parish has been ommitting the Creed from the Mass without explanation. I attended another Mass at a different parish and it was left out there too. The answer on the apologist forum was that it is not okay to simply omit the creed without special permission. Has anyone else seen this happen?

I only saw it happen once and that was at our new priest’s first Mass in our parish. Probably only the second or third Mass he had ever said in his life. Poor man was probably nervous and it was completely understandable…He also left out the Gloria.

Yes, but not lately - it has been over a year now. When I asked the priest about it, he said it was a time issue. There are seven Masses on Sunday so there is a need to keep the Mass limited to a specific time. If the Mass is running late, or if the homily was longer than normal, he would skip the Creed to get back on time. After the latest revision of the GIRM was introduced, the practice of skipping the Creed stopped.

Accidents happen, and I would politely inquire about this without pointing fingers, even if they would find deserving targets. But in the Da Vinci Code age when unfortunately too many Catholics seem to be losing the theological basics, we need the Creed more than ever.
