Why can’t people recognise that the burial of the dead is a corporate act of mercy blessed and endorsed by the Catholic Church?

Why do people think that the sole reason of anythings’ existence is to make a buck?

Mu grandmother did the forcing and she died in 1993. too late to bring it up with her. My wicked step-mom made the arrangments. and she hated my yia-yia. It was done cheaply by a mortuary in the ghetto. No church funeral since step-mom hated yia yia and her church.

I think Episcopalians do funerals best. As soon as the coffin comes in the church it is covered with a pall and stays that way. No open coffins, and no parade to “view the deceased” at the end. And the only flowers are two vases on the altar.

I wasn’t 7 years old when my dad died, but I think viewing the body was very cathartic for me and other members of my family. I hadn’t seen him in a while, and when I saw him laid out, it unleashed a torrent tears. I’m glad I was allowed to view him and greive for a while. He was such a sweet man.

You pay for many corporal works of mercy. You pay for food, for drink, for housing. Why would you not pay to bury your dead? 🤷

I understand that many years ago you had a bad experience but that doesn’t mean that an entire industry should close down.

I was considering cremation for myself, because I’m on a fixed income and have no heirs, but I was afraid to ask because I’m a Trad, and I thought Trads still forbid it. I’m glad to know I still can. I intended to have my ashes buried or placed in a mausoleum where they put ashes. Not that I’m planning to die soon. Of course that’s up to God. Thanks for the info.:tiphat:

Think about it carefully. I think it is much better to inter the body. Cremation is a very bizarre thing really. They burn up your body very quickly, in BIG hellish furnace. Then you are reduced instantly to ashes. Creepy. It is really barbaric. I would not recommend it to anyone. Talk about not respecting the dead!😦
