First off, God bless you for considering the priesthood. I’ll pray for you. I myself start seminary a week from today.
The best advice I can give you is to go talk to a vocations director for the order or diocese you’re thinking about going into. They’re there to help you. They’ll want to get to you know you, your history, your prayer life, why and how you feel called, etc. Just be open and honest with him.
At your age, you may find some (if not most) orders won’t be too interested. Most of them have a cutoff age, but it doesn’t hurt to ask if you feel called to a particular order. Some make exceptions.
Oh yeah, I forgot… If you don’t have one, get a spiritual director! That’s essential for anyone considering a vocation. It can be any priest you know and trust. But get one.
Be ready for more schooling. You will need 30 credits of philosophy before you can enter the major seminary and then it is a 4 year Masters program (MDiv) before you can be ordained.
If you are willing to put in the time I am sure that you will not have trouble finding a diocese that will accept you as a candidate. Though there are some that will not.
I just bumped into a priest in the grocery store this morning who was ordained this year, I think, at the tender age of 60… There are a handful of seminaries who specialize in “later vocations”.
