A question: Is it necessarily gossip to discuss criticism of a supervisor at work given that the comments are true and done in the spirit of desiring for the workplace to improve?
In part that would depend on who you were speaking with.
If your comments are directed to someone who can change the situation – your supervisor or someone higher up – then it’s not gossip (or detraction). If your comments are made to your co-workers who don’t have any more power than you do to change the situation…well, you can figure it out. And in my experience, “venting” isn’t very productive.
