If a guy dresses up as a woman or vice versa is it sinful if it’s for acting purposes on stage? I know it’s usually done for comical effect, and it’s pretty easy to tell the person’s real gender… but I don’t know.

I’m guessing that it’s not sinful?

EDIT: what if it’s not for acting on stage per se, but just acting in general. When is it acceptable?

Acting is a fine art. Do it well, but do it in line with your nature and gifts.

Take John Paul II’s example. He was at times, early in life, an actor. I am sure he did it well.

Ask for Blessed John Paul’s help in choosing parts that will be good for you and for others.

If not for acting, I don’t understand the dress up question. What ever you do - day and night - needs to be done for God’s glory and for the temporal and eternal good of others.

This is a very substantial and a serious standard to live up to; dwell on it a bit. Following this guide though brings much joy.

Oh, I don’t plan to act as anything other than my real gender. I’m just curious… And would like a simple yes or no with an explanation… thanks.

There is nothing wrong with this.

Look back to Shakesphere’s time. Women were not allowed to act so men routinely played the female roles. It is make believe and there is nothing wrong with it, unless ofcourse you have an alterior motive for wanting to play the role of the opposite sex. i.e. - you are a gay man but still “in the closet” so you take a female role just so you can kiss a man under the gise of acting.

Exactly!

I went to an all girls’ school, so what does one do when it comes to doing a play or drama when there’s a male role needed? My brother went to an all boys’ school and dressed as Rahpenzel for a play.

I think men dressing as women is funny.Like Arnold Swarzenneger in Junior.😃
I dont know what the Catholic Church says regarding the moral/sin side of it though sorry.

Nothing sinful there. It’s just acting. There might be an issue if you were acting in a play that was glorifying the trans-gender lifestyle, but the circumstances you describe sounds fine and not sinful at all.
