Do you think it’s ok to crossdress as a joke for a halloween costume? My brother and i want to jokingly dress up as a pair from a movie but would have to be in dresses and have wigs. Thank you!

It would be better if you didn’t cross dress, even for Halloween. For it could bring Scandal to others and make it seem like crossdressing is something that is morally acceptable.

I think it’s ok. Everyone knows it’s a Halloween costume. Just like I also think it’s ok to dress up as a witch. It doesn’t mean you condone witchcraft- it’s make-believe.

When I was little we used to have children’s stories about witches and similar creatures- their fictional character was never questioned. I feel like Halloween is similar.

Halloween is only a day and when you see how quickly that length of time passes, it will become evident that these things do not having any significance or meaning. Something could go wrong and it might become a source of shame later, so I would avoid it and find an alternative that has less risks.

Its just Halloween, people never take Haloween seriouse. Well maybe someone does but not most. If youre hanging with you’re friends, they know you, they know you’re just having fun. Im sure it’ll be fine. Id be more concerned about other things peole do on Halloween at parties. How they act, where they go, then what they wear.

But if its something you are real worried about, you can ask your priest.

In the year 1982 or 1983, you would have been fine with such a costume. Today, you could get yourself in to trouble with the PC police

It’s just a Halloween costume. If course it’s OK. Dressing up for Halloween is for fun.

It’s just for fun. Drop the serious thinking and enjoy yourself.

I myself would be Okay w/ that, go w/ your conscience,
“anything that is not of faith is SIN” Rom. 14:23.

Really? If one calibrates one’s sense of morality and what’s morally acceptable based on Halloween costumes, then I guess a vampire costume is out (can’t encourage blood sucking), Frankenstein’s out (can’t encourage digging-up the dead and playing God), witch costumes (self-evident), and on and on. If someone confuses Halloween costumes with social norms, there’s a larger problem.

Dressing up in a Halloween costume and “cross dressing” are entirely different things.

If you don’t know the difference, and why one is OK and the other problematic, speak to you parents or your pastor.

Dressing up as the opposite sex has a long history in theatre.

Is cross dressing wrong... in a play or skit? Family Life
Speaking from a theater perspective, it’s actually a very old tradition for women or men to play opposite-sex parts. For a very long time, women didn’t act on stage at all–at least, in reputable theaters, if you get my drift.
wink
Shakespeare, for example, would have been acted by all-male casts at the time, with not an eye batted about it, either. Ancient Greek plays were the same way: the classics of Sophocles and his peers, and the tales of ancient Greece and Rome would have been acted…
Since it’s use here isn’t immoral, it cannot be considered scandalous.

LOL, seriously? Since when did dressing up for Halloween start bringing scandal to anyone? Honestly, that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard

Please find where the Catholic Church explicitly condemns cross dressing for theatre.

Thank You Have Nice Day.

You’re joking, right? What possible scandal could it bring to others?

Pretty surprised by comments suggesting that progressives would have an issue with a man dressing up as a female character. It’s just a bit of fun. If you were deliberately mocking a transvestite that would be offensive, but a costume is a costume. As a female, I love dressing up as male characters. And yes, dressing up for Halloween is fine.

There are some costumes that could be racial, culturally and religiously offensive so you do have to think about what kind of costume to wear. However, dressing like the opposite sex, not so much but of course an innocent costume could become a problem for some people.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
