Okay, so here’s a scenerio that I would like to know the answer to.

Say that all during Easter a church has a white cloth around the crucifix with the corpus removed. Is this permissable? This is what they did at my parish the one time for Easter. I didn’t know whether or not it’s permissable to remove the corpus for the Easter Season.

This is what Paschale Solemnitatis (Circular Letter Concerning the Preparation and Celebration of the Easter Feasts from the Congregation for Divine Worship) says on the topic.
Before the 5th Sunday of Lent:
26. The practice of covering the crosses and images in the church may be observed, if the episcopal conference should so decide. The crosses are to be covered until the end of the celebration of the Lord’s passion on Good Friday. Images are to remain covered until the beginning of the Easter Vigil. (30)
HOLY THURSDAY
57. After Mass (the Mass of the Lord’s Supper) the altar should be stripped. It is fitting that any crosses in the church be covered with a red or purple veil, unless they have already been veiled on the Saturday before the fifth Sunday of Lent. Lamps should not be lit before the images of saints.

I believe that it is permissable, since Jesus has risen

nothing should be covered at Easter I think because as shown in the post above yours everything is to be uncovered at the easter vigil. Plus EVERY mass celebrates the death and resurrection of christ so by that logic we shouldn’t have a crucifix in any church.

I think he is referring to draping fabric around the arms of the cross, not wrapping it up so it can’t be seen. The white fabric draped cross is an iconic image.

I don’t know about that one, probably would be ok.

personally I rather just follow the norms of the Church, if the church doesn’t suggest putting anything on the cross on easter sunday I wouldn’t do it. Even though there wouldn’t be anything against it.

I disagree with your answer, because, Jesus died on the Cross for us,and Jesus said, that everyone that LOVES me shall be drawn to the Cross, for it is their salvation,so I Love when I see the Cross in the Church, and I knee and pray, showing my Love to Jesus for suffering and dieding on the CROSS.

no were did I say we should take down crosses, I was using his logic to say if we followed your logic to its logically conclusion then we shouldn’t have crucifixes in the church at all.

found this on one of the ask apologist threads.

its very clear in all dioceses of the united states IT IS NOT PERMITTED to cover crosses in your parish church from the passion tide to good friday.

Okay, maybe I am confused but I think the ruling was revised in 2002 and we can cover crosses and images.

wdtprs.com/blog/2011/04/passiontide-veiling-of-crosses-and-image-wdtprs-poll/

I know churches that have covered their images and crosses, since the 5th Sunday in Lent.

The Apologist back in 2005 mislead me, if the missal used for Mass says you can then you can so I take back that statement. Sorry for the confusion
Remember that the 2002 Missal was only promulgated in December 2011. It’s quite probable that this is something that was negotiated in the last couple of years and is being seen for the first time this Lent. There were also changes in the 2002 GIRM between the time it was first promulgated a few years ago and the final GIRM we saw in December 2011.

I think the confussion is about the novus ordo. This forum is on traditional Cathoilcism. At a traditional parish this what is done.

First Sunday ( Sunday before Palm Sunday) in Passiontide everything is covered, processional cross, all statues crucifixes, pictures etc. Even the Benedictine crucifixes in the confessionals. Purple covers.

Holy Thursday the crucifix on the altar is white everything else is the same.

Good Friday- crucifixes are un covered in the church. Once the cruficix is placed on the throne above the tabernacle you genuflect to the altar even though the Blessed sacrament is not there.

Great Vigil at midnight on Holy Saturday. At the Gloria, everything is uncovered in the church

Hope this helps

In our church, I noticed it only during Holy Week until Holy Saturday. The main cross was uncovered on Palm Sunday, but covered after.

I seem to remember as a child that the statues and crucifixes were covered in purple cloth during all of Lent, but the cloth was changed for one Sunday (Laetare ?) to a more reddish color - then back to purple.

After Vatican II , much of the liturgy was changed. In the untied states has ben more of a liberal movement. On Puerto Rico, much of the tradition is followed. Anyway, it is indicated that the local pastor may decide to veil or not veil the images and cross. The bishops do say to follow what is indicates in the GIRM. In other words, 5th Sunday Lent the images may be veiled. Not during all if Lent. And most importantly, the pastor can not empty the holy water fountain. It is done during Holy Thursday, so it was done at PUERTO RICO but like said before, the US is more liberal. Shame because such beauty is lost because of ignorance.
