Crowd watches girl being raped

From correspondents in Beijing
April 27, 2005

A YOUNG woman was raped by a man in a public toilet in north China as a crowd of some 40 bystanders stood by and watched, failing to help or call the police, state media reported Wednesday.

The incident took place on April 18 in Hengshui city in Hebei province when the 32-year-old garbage collector followed the 19-year-old woman into a public toilet and attacked her, the Beijing Youth Daily said.

Two police officers on patrol stopped to investigate when they saw a large crowd outside the toilet.

They found out a crime was taking place after one of the bystanders told them someone was being raped inside, 20 minutes after the assault started.

The officers arrested the man at the scene.

That is just heartbreaking. 😦 😦 What is wrong wih people!? Standing by and watching! Why would you want to watch something like that? I can’t even handle it in movies. Sick, Sick, Sick. Why wouldn’t they help her? :nope: It’s stories like this that make me wonder if the world really will come to an end soon.

Lisa, there’s no freedom of speech in China. IMO the fellow seems to have been motivated by old-fashioned lust.

The attitude of that principal was at least as criminal as that of the perpetrators of the crime. Firing him or her was hardly enough of a sanction.
I am in total agreement with you:mad: I do not understand him AT ALL:banghead: Well he was worried about the negative media attention he sure has it now:tsktsk:

Lisa:

The main principal in the Columbus, OH case who was fired was female. The assistant principals were reassigned after being suspended for a while.

Nothing surprising if it happens in China
A good example of atheists’ conscience. (most) atheists like psychopaths are humans without conscience. I can’t remember how many Chinese cheered over Sep 11 attack

Terribly, terribly sad. I can’t imagine her feeling of helplessness and shame knowing that people were watching this.

It’s not slow to react but no react. If you think Terri isn’t much responding, they’re even less. if it happened outside the toilet you were expected to hear “well done, tramp” as well.

I am from Columbus area and according to the news, a fellow student actually videotaped the entire incident. He didn’t help the poor girl (who was handicapped) or even report the incident. He has recently spoken to the media alongside his pastor to say that he was completely innocent and didn’t do anything. EXACTLY!! HE DIDN"T DO ANYTHING!!! :nope:

Here’re 2 similar cases in China with more serious result but on a smaller scale:

Apr 28th 05, 3 children(I’m reluctant to say they’re friends, so is in the case below though undoubtedly they believe they are) went to swim in a lake, then one of them started to sink because of exhaustion, the other 2 after finding they aren’t strong enough to pull him ashore hide his belonging and went home without telling anyone.

Sep 26th 03, 5 children went to swim in a river, one child started to sink in a especially deep hole. then another child prevented others from calling for help. when they were sure the victim is drowned, they divided money in his pocket and went home.

If applying the old English law, they can be hanged for showing “strong evidence of malice in a child aged 7–14 years of age”
