The hymn Crown Him with Many Crowns is in the section of the hymnal with other Christ the King hymns.
Would it be incorrect to use this hymn during the Easter Season?

Crown Him with Many Crowns* mentions the Risen Christ.
Verse 1 sing Of him who set us free
Verse 2 Crown him the Lord of life,
Who triumphed o’er the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife

Verse 2 Who died and rose on high

It sounds perfect for the Easter Season!

The hymnal publishers organize their hymns in whatever way they wish. Some organize them alphabetically, meaning we music ministers have to actually read – READ  – the lyrics and figure out when to use them! 😃

I use the hymns that are most appropriate to the readings and season of the year. The categories in the hymnal (non-Latin hymns) are mostly arbitrary, with the possible exception of Christmas hymns, and the more recent hymns written for specific seasons, feast days. In our parish hymnals, for example, the communion hymns, such as “O Sacrament Most Holy,” are not in the section on Eucharistic hymns, but in a section called Devotional. 🤷

Just because the hymnal lists the hymn under a specific category doesn’t mean that it isn’t appropriate for any other Sunday. I’m assuming you might be using an OCP publication? In my OCP missallette, it has plenty of suitable Easter hymns listed as “Christ the King” hymns. You could use “Alleluia! Sing to Jesus”, “Rejoice, the Lord Is King”, “Hail Redeemer, King Divine”, and may others as Easter hymns. Any hymn exalting Christ as King is suitable for the Easter season.
