Was John correct or Mark?

Was it before the passover meal or after? Kinda a big thing dont you think?

What do you mean? I thought they both came after the Passover Meal.

John 19:41-42
Now in the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been buried. So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day; for the tomb was close by.

Mark 15:42-44
*** When it was already evening, since it was the day of preparation, the day before the sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a distinguished member of the council, who was himself awaiting the kingdom of God, came and courageously went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Pilate was amazed that he was already dead***.

John:
So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day; for the tomb was close by.

Mark:
When it was already evening, since it was the day of preparation, the day before the sabbath,
Seem to be saying roughly the same thing to me. Where’s the problem?

Mark 14:12
*** On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passove***r?”

John 19:14
*** It was preparation day for Passover, and it was about noon. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your king!***”

They both are.

John is referring to the day before the sabbath, i.e. Friday.

St. John Ch 19. (drbo.com)
13 Now when Pilate had heard these words, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat, in the place that is called Lithostrotos, and in Hebrew Gabbatha. 14 And it was the parasceve of the pasch, about the sixth hour, and he saith to the Jews: Behold your king. 15 But they cried out: Away with him; away with him; crucify him. Pilate saith to them: Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered: We have no king but Caesar.
14 “The parasceve of the pasch”… That is, the day before the paschal sabbath. The eve of every sabbath was called the parasceve, or day of preparation. But this was the eve of a high sabbath, viz., that which fell in the paschal week.
16 Then therefore he delivered him to them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him forth.
St. Mark Ch 14 (drbo.org) is referring to Passover
1 Now the feast of the pasch, and of the Azymes was after two days; and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might by some wile lay hold on him, and kill him. 2 But they said: Not on the festival day, lest there should be a tumult among the people. 3 And when he was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper, and was at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of precious spikenard: and breaking the alabaster box, she poured it out upon his head. 4 Now there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said: Why was this waste of the ointment made? 5 For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
1 “Azymes”… That is, the feast of the unleavened bread.
6 But Jesus said: Let her alone, why do you molest her? She hath wrought a good work upon me. 7 For the poor you have always with you: and whensoever you will, you may do them good: but me you have not always. 8 She hath done what she could: she is come beforehand to anoint my body for burial. 9 Amen, I say to you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which she hath done, shall be told for a memorial of her. 10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests, to betray him to them.
11 Who hearing it were glad; and they promised him they would give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him. 12 Now on the first day of the unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the pasch, the disciples say to him: Whither wilt thou that we go, and prepare for thee to eat the pasch?
Therefore the crucifixion is after the Passover seder (the Last supper on Holy Thursday) and before that week’s sabbath (Holy Saturday for the Jews).

God Bless

There is no problem. There is no problem with any of passages which now constitute 20 different threads now in the Sacred Scripture forum.

I don’t see the problem of bringing this point up for the umpteenth time. We need to keep in mind that a different perspective could materialize through a fresh thread as opposed to a thread with possibly several pages where that perspective could get lost in the shuffle.

Smug eliteist “I know this and its boring to me” attitude is called not helpful.

Why do you know this so well? trust in commentaries? Which one?

Remind me why calling Epistemes’s response “smug” as being charitable?
Its not, but he keeps complaining that I have lots of threads here. I have 5 last count. He falsely accused me of having 4 times that amount.

So, its not smug, its lying.

I think he is saying that there are 20 threads, but not all of them are yours?

I’ve always found Scott Hahn’s The Hunt for the Fourth Cup an interesting read.
Long, but interesting absolutely! I printed it, and I will have to give it more than a glance, its chock full of information.

Its really nice that Scott Hahn could be brought to the Catholic Church through careful reading of scripture!🙂

There is a video of this, it’s expanded. It is awesome!!!

Every Catholic (no, Every Christian) should see it!

BTW, if that article is not long enough, try this one: Also, see if you can get over the red on red printing.

The red on red really is annoying. 😦

But, I am going to print it and see how it goes in black and white.😉
