Crucifix and cross?

Of course, we have crucifixes in our home, but I have seen some beautiful crosses as well. Are Catholics supposed to have only crosses showing Christ’s sacrifice and crucifixion? Or can I buy and have blessed, regular crosses?

A catholic may have crosses as well as crucifixes but as Catholics we believe that without Christ on the Cross, the cross means nothing, that is why we put so much emphasis on it.

You can buy a cross at any Christian gift shop and every Catholic one I’ve been to. Any priest would bless it.
 
You will practically never see a crucifix sitting on top of a steeple. I’ve never seen it. Also, most pectoral crosses are just crosses, no corpus.
 
Without the corpus, it is just an ancient Roman execution and torture device. The corpus reminds us of what He went through for our sakes!

Why do Catholics wear crosses or crucifixs, I am being sincere here, but is that not a bit strange? As a famous comedian one asked. If Jesus came back would he really want to see a cross again.
 
I think we can have both. Think of all the crosses people make from their Palm Sunday palms. There’s a crucifix on the rosary. There are plenty of crosses for sale at the Vatican.

I believe either would be fine. I have several of each in my home.

Why did He go towards the cross in the first place? He is clear He could have avoided it, but He came to do the Father’s will.

I had a similar question. I have been looking for a rosary on Etsy and came across a few rosaries with a cross instead of a crucifix. I wasn’t sure if that would be “okay”.

A cross instead of a crucifix is ok if it is a matter of design/material that is can’t be made like in woven/knoted rosaries. There are a lot of Protestant “rosaries” that don’t count as sacraments in our sense (missing beads and such) watch for those. If it has a corpus it is almost always valid. Without it still could but it can have its issues.
 
I’ve heard that we Catholics emphasize Christ’s crucifixion (dying for our sins). By contrast, I’ve heard that Protestants place greater emphasis on the Resurrection (empty cross). I am not a Catholic theologian or apologist, so I do not claim to know the answer. Just relating what I’ve heard in discussion.
