Christus vincit, regnat, imperat

That is amazing. I was ready for some kind of resurrefix, but when I saw his eyes I was transfixed.

I would like to learn more about who made it, when it was commissioned, history behind it.

It is very dramatic. I love the crown, a unique touch, as well as the four figures around the cross. Who are they? Two angels, two thieves? Inquiring minds want to know.

Also, Jesus has got some ripped abs! Second only to the Korean Jesus, his Last Supper was Pure Protein!

It was a great detail of the artist to include Adam and Eve. Adam is used as a foil to Christ in the bible; one example of this is 1 Corinthians 15:21: “For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.”

I’m still not sure who the two groups of figures gathered around Christ’s feet are though.

On the left side is the scene of Jesus teaching among crowds or in Synagogue. The scene on the right side of the Holy Cross is Jesus persecuted (already in Crown of Thorns) and shown in front of the people.

Yes, I can see it now.

Two angels, with Adam and Eve. Note that Adam and Eve are depicted in their fallen states: both are clothed, with Adam wearing shaggy animalskin trousers underlining toils of the earth, while Eve holds the forbidden fruit.

The scene on the left features three unnamed Apostles with St Thomas (far left, hands outstretched) with Christ pointing at his side (Jn 20:27). The scene to the left features the Saint Dismas and the impenitent thief (two left figures, hands bound behind backs), while the figures to the left and right of Jesus are centurions who are in the process of removing (probably pillaging) Christ’s clothes.
