Our Easter morning surprise was that the Crucifix was veiled in white. Is this legit?

I have never heard of or seen this done anywhere and I’m a cradle Catholic of upper middle age (:D). It will be interesting to see if anyone else is familiar with this practice.

I’ve seen it once. The crucifix was suspended over the altar (very large crucifix) and a white curtain was hung in front of it while a lot of lights shone from behind so that you could see the shadow through the curtain. Very cheesy and contrived looking. They had the processional crucifix unveiled though so at the very least there was some crucifix present.
