I have 2 questions should you wear a crucifix to bed? like basically 24 hours and my second question is if somebody commits a sin while wearing a blessed crucifix does the crucifix need to be exorcised or be reblessed and does it difer if the sin is venial or mortal ? Thank you

The blessed crucifix is a blessed crucifix regardless.
The crucifix didn’t and couldn’t sin, only the person can

If I were you, I’d opt to wear a very small crucifix. I wear one 24/7 and have for years and years. When I commit a sin, I go to confession. My crucifix cannot take the blame or do the penance for me. I want everyone to recognize how much I love Jesus, that is why I wear the cross. When I am troubled about anything, my fingers trace Jesus on the cross and I pray for His guidance. I am reminded to pray because Jesus’ figure in always close to me.

Greetings Zooman77,

Yes you can wear a crucifix to bed. The only time mine comes off is when I am in the shower or swimming.

Nope crucifix is fine when one sins venially or mortally as Trishie has mentioned. However, I would like to mention if one uses it in a Satanic service or in an occult way as a charm or as an object of a curse, then the crucifix should not be worn anymore.

I think the correct protocal in this case is to put holy water on it and bury it.

God Bless.

I’d rather not wear a cross or a crucifix since it could be mistaken for an image made by human hands. Sorry, but when it comes to my soul, i think i’ll play it safe and not wear it. I thought Jesus lives in hearts and if that is so then why do we even need to wear it. I don’t need to prove or show everybody that i love Jesus and I’m pretty sure when they see how i act or talk they will know.

Well i don’t think a scapular is any better, i mean it is still made by human hands isn’t it.
“All true children of God, the predestinate, have God for their Father and Mary for their Mother; and he who has not Mary for his Mother, has not God for his Father.”
Ummm…so what about Jesus, did i miss something or did the Pope in his infallibality change the Church Doctrine again…Oh! never mind this was written already and authorized by the Popes along time ago…my mistake.

I wasn’t talking to you.

Well yes, you did miss something. Namely all those Councils a few centuries ago when the Christological Controversies were settled. We Christians have believed Christ to be God for quite sometime now.

Never mind that my quote is obviously applying to the regular masses of humanity and not God as God cannot predestine God. However if you want to play this game… you realise that Our Lady was the Mother of Jesus yes?

Besides your, honestly infantile attempt, to insult the Catholic Faith, have you got anything constructive to add?

Since we aren’t perfect and we always fall short of his glory and we continously sin…i mean just one thought, one word and that’s all it takes to sin. Does that mean i have to go to confession all the time? what if i wait until Sunday, but die before i can go to confession. I think I’ll Confess my sins and repent of them to Jesus all day, even if i think i didn’t sin. Maybe i should pray to God all the time, give Him thanks and not just when i am troubled. I think he would like that, i know my friends like that.

No it doesn’t. You will has to play an active part for one to sin. If you stub your toe on the ground and yelp a cuss word, you’ve not sinned. If you’re sitting on the bus and someone’s talking really loudly on their phone, and you have a nasty thought about them, it is not a sin unless you fully consent on it and encourage it. That’s when it crosses in to sin. That is to say when your will becomes an active participant in the thought.

You are right. We’re not perfect. One of the lack of our perfections, that we lost when Adam fell from grace, was that our bodies and minds are no longer completely subject to our reason and soul. We can, to a large extent, control our passions and desires. But urges etc., are always going to be there because of our nature.

There are different degrees of sin. Mortal and venial. You will not go to hell if you commit a venial sin (though with venial sins they have a danger of developing into mortal sin due to habit, attachment to them etc.). If you have committed a mortal sin, say for example masturbation, the improper abuse of the sexual function, and are truly sorry and fully intend to go to confession, but die before you can get there, God will provide the grace of the Sacrament for you. He knows our hearts and He is merciful.

However the Sacrament is the ordinary method by which He has ordained we receive absolution.

You say you would rather confess to Jesus… that is exactly what we Catholics do. We confess to Almighty God, we ask God for His pardon and He provides it, by the Most Precious Blood of His son, via His ordained ministers.

Sorry I wasn’t trying to insult the Catholic faith…and yes i know that Mary was the mother of Jesus…but you should be carefull because that could be misleading to an non believer.
Would the Cross, Crucifix, brown scapular, the rosary, be consider Images or man made objects?

No problem. These things happen.
but you should be carefull because that could be misleading to an non believer.
All the more reason to keep it. If it provokes a response in them, that may lead to a question, like it has in you, then it will provide an opportunity to explain Catholicism etc.

They would indeed be made by man… what does that matter though? Did not Christ use wine made by the hand’s of men at the Last Supper (even if you do not believe in the Real Presence)? Did not Christ use men to spread the Gospel? Did he not, before His Ascension, command His apostles to go forth, baptise all nations and Teach them?

Oh! I see, so what you are saying is if don’t play an active part in sin and consent or encourage it then i havn’t sinned. Does that mean I’m Sinnless?

I’m a little confused on the Mortal and Venial sin. I though sin was sin and all sin lead to death and that is why we all die. What if i become a priest and only commit Venial sin does that mean i will live forever?

Why do we have to ask God for his pardon, hasn’t he already forgiven us of our sins through the Blood of Jesus Christ all we need to do is repent and why do i have to go to a minister is Jesus the High priest forever?

Oh! I see, so what you are saying is if don’t play an active part in sin and consent or encourage it then i havn’t sinned. Does that mean I’m Sinnless?
Not at all. I am simply saying that not everything is sinful, which is the manner in which your presented your case. You’re not sinless. I am not sinless. However not everything that comes into our mind is sinful because we can hardly give consent to a thought that arrives from passions and urges we have no control over.

What we do have control over is our participation in it. If you have a sexual thought about a woman whom you are not married to, it is not sinful. It only becomes sinful when you pass into the realms of lust, dwelling on the sexual thought and participating in it instead of just trying to ignore it.
I’m a little confused on the Mortal and Venial sin. I though sin was sin and all sin lead to death and that is why we all die.
If you’re sitting at home and a friend calls you up and asks you to come out for lunch or a couple of drinks down the pub, but you’re simply not in the mood and lie to him about it… are you going to go to hell for it? It is sinful and it will displease God but you will not be damned for it.
What if i become a priest and only commit Venial sin does that mean i will live forever?
What does being a priest have to do with it? They commit mortal sins as the rest of us. But committing venial sin isn’t a… well… “acceptable sin”. It’s still sinful and it is still displeasing to God. You simply wont experience eternal fire if you dye without having confessed that time you disobeyed your mother when she asked you to hover the sitting room.

if people treat venial sin lightly then it risks quickly developing into mortal sin. For example, if you habitually commit a venial sin, know that it is wrong etc., and go to confession and confess it without any intention of reforming yourself, I’m pretty sure that they invalidates the Sacrament, enters into mortal sin by presuming on God’s mercy and the venial sin its self has developed into a mortal sin because of one’s attachment to it even if it is a minor issue.
Why do we have to ask God for his pardon, hasn’t he already forgiven us of our sins through the Blood of Jesus Christ all we need to do is repent and why do i have to go to a minister is Jesus the High priest forever?
But this is exactly what the Sacrament of Confession is. It is the High Priest Jesus Christ applying the merits of His Sacrifice of Calvary on the repentant sinner. You have to understand what the priesthood is… it is His priesthood. The ordained clergy are alter Christus, they act in persona Christi. In the Sacrament of Confession and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass… it is Jesus Christ that is offering and Jesus Christ that is forgiving.

These things that you mentioned aren’t tangible objects. I thought that Jesus choose his followers and they willingly followed the Word in flesh. The word “use” seems like he took advantage of. Besides, doesn’t the Bible worn us about images, idols…etc made by human hands.

But they are… unless you want to argue that the Apostles did not have corporal bodies…

Not necessarily.

The Bible teaches us not to worship graven images and material things. We do not worship material things. We use statues, crucifixes, scapulars etc., as external reminds of our faith and devotions.

to add…

… much like we have photos of our loved ones to remind us of them. 🙂

Ummmm…Azcards:
The last time I looked,** all** my Bibles were:rolleyes: made by human hands…Am I supposed to:eek: get rid of them? And wait for God to speak to me? Or can I use those human-hand made Bibles to learn more about what God would have of me?
'Cause you’re not very logical.🤷 Just saying…(Unless your Bible :cool:fell from the sky one day???)
