Cruelty free?

Maybe some of you don’t realise, but

It’s quite a NORMAL THING here to only buy things that are only cruelty free.

Not OCD.

There are a lot of people living this compassionate way,its not at all unusual here in the UK.

For example there is a whole chain of makeup that is only cruelty free (Bdyshp) & the biggest pharmacy (B**Ts, also Superdr*g) has years ago changed all of its product (No7) to not tested on animals.

If it sounds weird in the U.S. Maybe people ought to think a little more about avoiding unnecessary cruelty at a distance in their buying habits.

Well said although there are people in th US who are also concerned about using animal tested products too. Some of them are on CAF.

There is a group of us at Catholic Vegetarians and Vegans! I think it is one of those things that when you learn something you can’t ‘un-learn’ it — you can ignore what you’ve learned but you can’t ‘un-learn’ it ----

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I suppose what I’m looking for is a definite yes or no answer. Would face wash and other hygiene products be valid and acceptable according to what the CCC says - even if tested on animals? Would make up, hair products, nail varnish etc be valid and acceptable according to what the CCC says - even if tested on animals? Is testing on animals for reasons other than medical be considered a sin?
Also, it isn’t just “try to find at least some cruelty free to animals products if you’re not able to get all” it’s what do the animal cruelty free stuff test on? Because I read of companies testing on aborted fetal cells - maybe instead of animals. And if that’s the case, I’d rather avoid “animal cruelty free” products. I’m sure they can’t all be. Basically, it’d be nice if I could just go back to before I heard all this, and not worry about these things or what I buy.

Boy do I understand! I tell people this all the time - one can not ‘un-learn’ something. Some people I guess are able to ignore what they learn - but I haven’t been able to!

RE animal testing you are right to say the CCC says Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving human lives.

As we grow we develop our conscious - what one person considers “reasonable limits” - another may not find “morally acceptable” - For me taping a rabbits eyes open to test cosmetics on the rabbit - I do not find to be within reasonable limits nor morally acceptable… yet someone else may find that to be within reasonable limits. So, no the Catholic Church does not give us a black and white yes or no - but leads us to develop our conscious so we are able to decide what to do taking all facts into consideration.

Regarding the testing on aborted fetus - What I’ve learned about this issue comes primarly from the group Children of God for Life and their work to expose the company Senomyx — the use of a line of testing material that has been derived from a fetus aborted in the 1970s and the line of testing medium derived from that… this is what goes on here in the US - I do understand that there are some differences in Europe (ie: ihcp.jrc.ec.europa.eu/our_labs/eurl-ecvam) … I admire this group for exposing this issue - but not their call is to replace this medium derived from a fetus aborted in the 1970s with live animals. There is another answer.

So - what are you to do? Chose one or the other? I think you can make choices that respect what you have learned in both areas ---- veganbeautyreview.com/2010/05/vegan-beauty-recipes-easy-as-1-2-3.html —

Keep learning - keep striving to develop your Catholic conscious - and perhaps YOU will be the person who develops the way to test that honors ALL life issues - 🙂

Hi,
Thanks again. Yeah, it’s hard to let thoughts drop especially when you’re scrupulous like me. I’m praying to God for answers, maybe He already shown me the answers, I just have to actually learn to see them and understand them.
I’m not a vegan or vegetarian. I gave all this so much thought though - as I sometimes tend to. Since I already have things bought its been said to me to maybe not waste them - but look for alternatives also.
And I like I said, if it was just buy cruelty free stuff it’d be alright, I mean, not everything might be animal cruelty free but at least some. But it’s more. I’m more concerned with the aborted fetal cells, and how “cruelty free to animal” products provide their tests.
The Catholic Church isnt completely against animal testing. Who am I to go against what they’re saying? I learn the truth from Christ. God will help me with my worries, concerns and problems, thankfully.
And still, there has to be some brand that doesn’t endanger human life at all and doesn’t hurt live animals.
And I know about Children of God for Life.
Again, thanks and God Bless
