I do. I have this closeness with the Lord and our mother Mary. šŸ™‚ I tune everything else out and really meditate while praying. I started praying the rosary just a few weeks ago. I used to pray it before but it was as if I was just reciting words. I feel very diffently now. šŸ™‚ It’s as if I pray it with all my heart and soul.
I can’t even say it in words.

Sometimes I’ve had that happen, especially while meditating on the sorrowful mysteries.

I find the sorrowful mysteries to be very comforting. I feel very close to Our Lord when I pray the sorrowful mysteries, although I have cried during the joyful mysteries.

I think the mystery that makes me feel the closest to our Lord is the Agony in the Garden. He seems so human, suffering from anxiety over what he was going to go through. I suffer from a lot of anxiety myself, and I feel so sorry for him at this stage. Not that I don’t feel incredibly sorrowful for him during the other mysteries, but there is something about sharing anxiety and fear over the future with Him makes me feel closer to him.

What changed for you, TexRose? The reason I ask is, most of the time when I pray the Rosary or a personal prayer, I feel like I’m just going through the motions. I hate that, and I want to be closer to Jesus and Mary. I’ve read Monfort’s book, and Pope JPII’s encyclical on the Rosary. They helped a little, but I still feel very empty during prayer. I’ve also read Fr. Dubay’s book about prayer, and I would absolutely love to get to those heights!

Larry, you might want to try using some meditations, such as these:

Also, try putting yourself in that particular scene. What images come to mind? How would you feel if you were witnessing that event? What would you want to tell our Lord if you were there, witnessing that event? For instance, how would you feel if you were standing at the foot of the cross, with Mary and John? What would you feel? What would you say to them? What would you say to our Lord?

I agree with mommyof4. Try to put yourself in that particular scene or situation. Even before you start the rosary say a personal prayer. Ask the Lord to send the holy spirit upon you. Believe it with all your heart.
As you start the rosary, tune everything else out. If you have children (like I do šŸ™‚ ) go to your room or go outside even. You can explain to them that this is quiet time because it’s prayer time. Mine understand that while mom and dad are praying the rosary or other prayers, that this is a time to speak to the Lord and they do respect that.

Also, I use this website called virtual rosary. Here is the link.

I have prayed the Rosary several different ways – using the virtual rosaries with beautiful images of the mysteries, and the pamphlets with the same thing, including reading the pertinent scripture verses. The best for me, I think, is when I’ve imagined myself at Mary’s side during each of Jesus’ ordeals. When I said ā€œBlessed art thou among womenā€¦ā€ I imagined I was saying it as words of comfort directly to her to help her endure what she was seeing her child go through.

I think you’ve got the right idea! I think different things work for different people.

I don’t cry while praying the Rosary because I don’t cry, period. I have some kind of psychological block against crying. I wish I could cry, but I can’t.

Nevertheless, my eyes do run with water sometimes when I’m praying the Rosary, and I don’t think it’s because I’m allergic to it šŸ˜›

I’ve definitely started weeping while meditating on the mysteries. It feels cleansing to me.

Nice to meet you. I’m new here.

I have never cried when praying the Rosary, but I do feel extremely close to the Lord. It’s almost as if the Blessed Mother takes me gently by the hand and reveals her Son to me.

I love all of the Mysteries and I often gain new insights every time I meditate upon them. For the Rosary to be effective, you have to concentrate deeply on the mysteries and immerse yourself in the life of our Lord and try to think of the emotions they felt during those times, such as the love of a Mother for her Son, and the worry and anxiety of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemani.

I love the Rosary. Every Catholic should at least give it a try.

It’s nice to meet you too. Welcome to the forums!

I have cried on several occasions saying the Rosary. It’s a sadness that sometimes comes over me.

It also gives me joy at the same time.

It’s hard to explain.

Has anyone seen any signal graces that our Lady has promised by meditating on the Rosary daily.

I have. šŸ™‚

Welcome Bellablade šŸ™‚

I understand the joy and sadness feelings at the same time, it’s like the joy of willing sacrifice for love. That is how I feel it. I string and wrap rosaries for people I know too, and sometimes I cry or daze off where my sister can’t even get my attention and then I fall asleep after making them. The last one I did I fell asleep for 11 hours after I was done.

Wow, 11 hours, the Holy Spirit must of drained the life out of you. šŸ™‚ That was a joke. 😃

I just concentrate so hard, and get so excited about the final product, haha.

I’d post an image of it, but I don’t know how to make it work here.

The only time I’ve ever cried over my sins was at a time when I was praying a rosary of sorts (The Rule of the Mother of God, which is slightly different) consistently. Our Mother has a way of softening our hearts for God.
