Saw this News story and thought I’d share. This is right in my old neighborhood - stomping grounds…Never been in the place but passed it probably a hundred times or more…

Weeping Statues

Have to be very careful with these things, but anything that brings hope to people is a blessing and is good. Hopefully the owner will let this be looked into.

People say her tears bring them hope.

If I believed in such things, I’d think the tears are for the aborted unborn.

I live by there, and I know the story of how the bookshop came to be. One of the sister’s living in a nearby convent, went on a trip to Fatima around the 1960s. Next They brought back many statues of mary including a large four foot one in a window over looking the main street passing through Reading. I believe the owners are able to be trusted, fro it is a non-profit religious book store. Now the story of the tears, I’ve heard many things one of which is due to low attendance the owners prayed about the future of the shop and the tears appeared, another story is that a rosary placed into Mary’s hands belonged to a past priest by the name of Fr. Jim Willig who died of cancer around 7-8 years ago. I believe the tears are genuine, Mary weeps for all of us.

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut. I really didn’t know much about the store though when talking to my mom she concurred that it had been starte by the Sister of Notre Dame who have a convent up on the hill there in Reading.
Mom also knew (or knew of) Fr Willig. It seems he was highly esteemed in the Parish there (Sts Peter and Paul). If you hear any more about it please do share.

I have family in reading and when they visited today around 1pm Mary stopped crying, but she still has a tear left on her chin, I’m really trying to push my family to go maybe tomorrow, but I’m not sure/

Who exactly would and does look into this? The Vatican? The Diocese of Ohio? or Both?

I apologize to the MODs and CAF if this doesn’t belong here and please correct me if I’m wrong but I think the only approved weeping Virgin Mary statue has been “Our Lady of Akita”

Well I don’t know all the details, but I know it begins at the local/diocesan level and works its way up from there. I seem to recall just recently the bishop of Green Bay Wisconsin giving approval to some visions in his diocese…
Here is a link to a Wiki article on **Marian apparitions **- if you page down you will find a section on the process. (begins in section 2.1 of the contents)

I finally got around to visiting and the statue of Mary stopped crying. The dates n which she cried was Jan 23-Feb1. She cried for a total of nine days. When I visited they have picture which any one could take and the statues are still on display.

I have a hard time believing in weeping statues.
– Thank God I don’t have to believe in them. 👍

I do not have a hard time believing in weeping statues…God can do as he pleases.
However I don’t place my faith on the truth or falsity of such matters…

It’s like the shroud of Turin, it is a remarkable piece, but if it were difinitively proven to NOT be Christ’s burial shroud it would not effect my faith in the least.

God bless you I totally agree with this.

Sbrick- You stated that the Blessed Virgin Mary statue cried for a total of 9 days? This reminds me of a “Novena” What about the statue of the Sacred heart of Jesus?

I wouldn’t put all my trust in wikipedia.

I don’t

I apologize if I came off as cruel and defensive. However, I noticed that some things on wiki are not very accurate that is why I was wondering about “Our Lady of Akita” I have read a book about “Our Lady of Akita” but still I’m not sure. 🤷

God bless,

When talking to may Mon today she said, “You know the satues that weeped for 9 days, a novena…You know when they started? It was the Jan 23 - the Anniversary of Roe V Wade…”

How about that folks.

Peace

This still amazes me.

I’m just wondering does anybody know if this library has a website?

Did any of the volunteers or co-workers discuss this on blog or anything? Just curious.

God bless,

Amen to that. If one believes God created the world in six days, caused the great flood, and countless other miracles. Why would a statue crying be that much to even ponder? If only our faith were as strong at times as our doubt.
The Shroud of Turin comment, Amen very well stated.
God bless,
