It’s not the “Truth”, it’s not edifying, it does not add to the thread, it does not enlighten us and it’s a pity you made that comment. It is sad that you call the Truth sewage.

And a pity is not pretty! That’s why it’s a pity.
The negativity on these threads get so old after a while. You so-called “Truth” is your personal opinion/taste (likely based on a photograph) and nothing more.It is sad that you call the Truth sewage.
I agree. I joked with Catholic friends and family beginning more than 5 years ago that the Church should buy what is now Christ Cathedral. When the Church entered into the bidding I made the effort to do two things. I actually visited and walked around the campus and I did a little reading about Philip Johnson’s design philosophy. Both were quite eye opening. It’s not the “Truth”, it’s not edifying, it does not add to the thread, it does not enlighten us and it’s a pity you made that comment.
Have you ever visited the campus? And a pity is not pretty!
I agree. Much better sounding, IMO, than “Christ Cathedral”.Catedral de Cristo has a nice Catholic ring to it too, especially in California. Just saying.
The truth does not have to be pleasant to be edifying. What exactly about my statement is untruthful? Are the current occupants of the Crystal Cathedral not of the protestant vein? Is it the trend in most Catholic churches to have sufficient time and interest for at least monthly confession for its members? What exactly did I say that was not truthful or is your method of discussing an issue to insult and call others in the discussion liars? It’s not the “Truth”, it’s not edifying, it does not add to the thread, it does not enlighten us and it’s a pity you made that comment.
Pointing out an egregious practice (or lack of practice) is not an attack. It is the truth. The fact the sacrament of reconciliation of offered so little at the current Cathedral can tell us something about the Bishop and how Catholic he will make his new “cathedral”.I agree. To me there is little “Protestant” (or Catholic) about Christ Cathedral in its current configuration. It’s more or less this remarkable, fairly utilitarian space that will largely be defined by its furnishings. If the remodel is done right, it could easily be one of the top five most beautiful Catholic cathedrals in the USA. And when I say “beautiful” I mean experiencing it in person at the Easter Vigil Mass and not looking at an on-line snapshot.
I wish that those who feel the need to dig into Christ Cathedral would do their homework and not simply react in a knee-jerk manner to that which they do not understand. I also didn’t like the rather rude comment about what one person felt would be the likely absence of confessionals. ** There was no need to attack Bp. Brown.** I’m sure there will be confession rooms.
You comment was meant at an attack on Bp. Brown. It added absolutely no value much like you putting “cathedral” in quotes. There is no debating that.Pointing out an egregious practice (or lack of practice) is not an attack. It is the truth. “There is no debating that.”You comment was meant at an attack on Bp. Brown. There is no debating that.
I stand corrected, it would seem. After some checking, it turns out that the cathedral of the Diocese of Orange is actually Holy Family Cathedral, and not, as I had thought, Christ our Savior Cathedral Parish – where, indeed, confessions are listed as “By Appointment” only.btw there is confession offered at the current cathedral: 1hr 45 minutes per week. If less than 350 people attend the cathedral they would be blessed with 1 minute of confession time per month.
I also agree, it sounds elegant and would have been nice, especially since they weren’t going to consider names like “Our Lady of the Garden.”Catedral de Cristo has a nice Catholic ring to it too, especially in California. Just saying.
