Today’s bulletin has the Call to Action convention in Milwaukee in the pastor’s letter under a “study/prayer events” title that listed other normal diocese stuff (leadership workshop, bereavement group, NFP class, etc.).

Given the controversial nature of many of CTAs positions, I was pretty surprised.

Is this group more mainstream than I thought? Would it be just as weird for the pastor to let us know where to get in on a good SSPX meeting?

Nurse,

You are misinformed. This type of group is exactly what the SSPX fights so nobly against, not for.

What I was trying to say is I didn’t think SSPX was the kind of organization you would find your average parish priest promoting either. They are not without controversy.

As far as I know they are allowed to operate in the Milwaukee Archdiocese, and some parishes are more likely to accept them than others. They are free to do their thing. 🤷

What is the topic and blurb in the bulletin about this specific event?

This is a grave failure in your pastor’s duty to defend the souls under his charge. This organization is notorious for its dissent from Catholic doctrine and authoritative discipline. No person should attend one of their events.

This is quite unfortunate and shameful that a Catholic Priest would forget his faith enough to not vehemently speak out against CTA or just not mention them at all. To even mention them and associate CTA with the Catholic faith is a grave scandal.

I would pray for your pastor and mention this to him. Maybe someone else put it in the bulletin and he was not aware of this treason to the faith.

CTA is one group that any faithful Catholic should reject and fight against if they care about the salvation of their own soul.

CTA is not something that should ever, ever be advertised in a parish bulletin.

The SSPX is a schismatic/partially schismatic group, which rejects most of Vatican II and the new missal.

The CTA rejects the foundation of Catholic belief and Christianity.

The SSPX is a Christian, Catholic group. CTA is not.

So yes, they are similar in that neither should be discussed or advertised favorably in a parish bulletin, but the CTA is far beyond any problems the SSPX has.

The CTA convention is tagged as “Has a strong emphasis on social justice.”

Vatican: Excommunication of Call to Action Organization Stands:

I would phone or speak directly with your pastor immediately and ask him if he intended for the announcement re: CTA to be in the parish bulletin. If he says yes: (1) ask him why he is supporting a dissident group, whose excommunication within one diocese has been upheld by the Vatican, and (2) write a letter to your bishop immediately.

Lincoln, NE is only one diocese and one bishop. The Milwaukee Archbishop is a different person than the Lincoln bishop. Just because CTA is excommunicated in one diocese does not mean they should be in all dioceses. 🤷 Different dioceses for different areas of the country.

The Vatican upheld the decree. That should be enough for any reasonable person to see the danger involved.

What a minute here.

The simple fact that Vatican upheld the excommunication gives more than valid reason to believe that CTA is not a good organization to be supporting in a church bulletin.

I do realize that there are many people and places in thie country that fail to recognize the Vatican as part of the church.

But for the rest of us I believe that the backing the Vatican gave LIncoln is reason enough to be assured that CTA is not somthing Catholics should be involved in.

Is the bullitin available online? If so, could you please link it?

If we can assemble some details, I’d be happy to put some of it togther and possibly get some action on it (you’d be surprised how a little light on bs goes a long way toward evaporating it.) Bottom line: CTA should not be getting support from parishes.

Why would it be wrong, and excommunicable action to be part of CTA in one diocese and not wrong in another.

Why would it be right in another diocese? Just because the Bishop hasn’t said so? That makes no sense.

In many cases, the bishop isn’t even aware it is going on. That’s why I want to get the specifics–there have been enough examples of church authorities acting when made aware of it that it is worth trying.

Good point, many Bishops are quite busy with the myriad of problems and management issues in their own dioceses.

Lincoln is only one diocese. Their bishop set their local standards, the ruling from Rome referred just to that local diocese. It is not correct to make a blanket statement on a group based on one local instance and interpretation. If that was the case, then Rome would have expanded the ruling, but they did not, they kept it at one rural diocese, in this case Lincoln.

So, CTA only contradicts the faith in Lincoln?

And you apply the same logic to a certain conservative group that’s only excommunicated in one diocese, right?

What? You don’t think reality changes when you move across diocesan lines? 😃

Anyway, I’ll try find out some more info on this and put something together for the local ordinary, but don’t worry–I’m not in the Nebbi diocese in Uganda, so I’m not really doing it here. 😃

Again, Nurse Joy, if you could pass on any links or info, that would be appreciated.
