I have honest questions. Please consider them and respond if you are able.

If it is a known fact that the federal government funds planned parenthood (who slaughter children in the womb, an obvious mortal sin), which they do, then aren’t we “offering incense to Caesar” when we file and pay income taxes that fund the government? Aren’t we committing mortal sin if we continue to pay our taxes because we are placing a higher value on our security and comfort rather than ruffling feathers with the IRS and possibly losing earthly possessions?

Jesus was surely aware of the state-mandated paganism of the Roman rulers and their brutal policies towards dissidents, yet He commanded to give unto Caesar. The lesson throughout history is that we are responsible for our personal actions, but only indirectly responsible for the actions of others. If Caesar commands us to worship an idol, perform an abortion, or embrace another religion as equal, then we must not comply. On the other hand, if Caesar demands tribute and then chooses to misuse those taxes to sin, the sin is mortally on those politicians and leaders, not on the taxpayer whose complicity is indirect. The taxpayer is not directing the money to sin, it is the politician and the politicians can change their mind at any time and change the immoral law or rule. To be more direct, Barack Obama endangered his soul by mortal sin when he signed off on government funding of Planned Parenthood, but a random taxpayer who votes and speaks against the policy is not.

No.

Well, thanks for the detailed response 1ke. Consider that some estimates of the total population of the Roman Empire are around 55 million people. The US has aborted more children than the entire Roman Empire. But I guess we should just carry on, even though we know what funds are being used for. I guess the martyrs who chose death rather than give a pinch of incense to Caesar were just taking the Jesus thing too seriously. Maybe, they should have just given swords to the empire to kill the Christians with in the Coliseum; after all, it would just be the Romans who are to blame since they used the swords in a sinful way. Give me a break.

This post is inconsistant with your previous contention that you had an honest question. It would seem that you already have a firmly formed opinion and are unwilling to accept or even discuss anyone else’s.

Please note that not ALL of the tax dollars are spent on abortion. We all, in one way or the other, receive a benefit from the taxes we pay.

No, it is not a mortal or venial sin to pay income taxes but it is a crime not to.

It’s no biggie.

If it’s a problem for you, and you have conscientious objections as to how your taxes are spent, don’t file your returns and don’t pay.

Let us know how that works out for you.

I’m guessing you also do a due diligence check on all the services and companies you use to make sure they’re not spending their money in a way you don’t approve of?

Good luck with that.

Sarah x 🙂
