Curious about how some people can seem to read others souls

Here is something happening to me lately:

Two people involve in Charismatic …

• First person said to me: I “sensed” no devil spirit in you. You are a good person.
• Second person told others, not me, that I had bad spirits in me and that is the reason why this person did not want to invite me to the Bible study.

I let you all think about this a little bit - what is the reason of having a gift from God - to judge others or to help others come closer to God.

Water, you are talking about the word of knowledge in Charismatic session. Word of knowledge or prophecy are always for edifying, never downgrading. The second person misunderstood and misused the gift of knowledge. He may thinks he has a gift but does not. Or it could be a case of immature “prophet” who is practicing the gift but didn’t get it right. He may think he get an impression from the Holy Spirit, but actually he did not. Saying out something specific but not edifying should never happen whether it is in private or in a group.

As the result, the second person and few following him quit studying the Bible. Now, I have chance to join the Bible group and keep praying for them. I hope someday they will recognize the things they need to change.

I Corinthians 12 is a good chapter to read about spiritual gifts.

There are different gifts but the same Spirit; there are different ministries but the same Lord, there are different works but the same God who accomplishes all of them in everyone. To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

Sounds like that group needs some pastrol guidance if possible.

I have heard about the charismatic stuff from these boards, but don’t have any experience with it at my parish. Just what I have talked about with my Priest, but he is very cautious. He is just now telling me it took Paul 3 years before he could get his bearings, to have patience. That is as far as we have gone. I know that my Priest had an experience with the Blessed Mother and Anne Seton that convinced him to become a Priest, but he has never gone into detail with me about it. I can’t put my finger on why everything seems so time sensitive. Maybe it is just my health I fear. Thanks for all your help,Tim

Where is the spirit of humility?

That doesn’t sound good. But maybe some break through is on the horizon, hence the adversity right now. We have only one Priest and he is the spiritual leader of the flock. It is a very personal and close knit parish. But no gifts are discussed outside of a reading. The “wildest” thing we have done is the St. DeMonfort consrecration. That was a big deal and required a month of preperation and prayer.Tim

I used to go go the parish when I first moved to the town, but have gone to different parish and become its member. From what I know, the members of the Charismatic groups are the people who have been the main supporters of that parish, and the pastor there trusts them.

Personally, I wouldn’t go anywhere near this group. This discussion is a living case study of everything NOT to do as shown by St. John of the Cross in this thread. So much opportunity for error in discernment when one trusts in himself . . .

How do you edify a possible vision and should you? How do you discern from where it came? In two years, I’ve had one Priest give a possible interruption of one symbol in one thing. The eagle is John. Thats all I got. Not much for two years of searching.Tim

Personally, I wouldn’t go anywhere near this group. This discussion is a living case study of everything NOT to do as shown by St. John of the Cross in this thread. So much opportunity for error in discernment when one trusts in himself . . .

Thanks Dave. However, sometimes, such group needs others to be around though - one falls, others must help. Helping is not always an easy thing to do.

It is the book of St. Faustina’s diary. There are so much to learn from the book. Her book has helped me clearly - without any doubt - at least 5 times over the past 1 year. When I had doubt and wondering about some very specific thing, I just happened to read the answers from her book within few days or even on the same day.

I read about 1 or 2 paragraph per night and I am at page 526. There are so much to learn from her and what Jesus had taught her.

That one I’m 3/4 the way through. I now understand why the Lord put her in my life as the secretary of mercy. Sometimes you get engulfed in what you are reading and nothing stands between you and the words, not even time. How about a book on discernment of the gifts we are discussing. She doesn’t go into get detail of her gifts or explain them. They just happen, she knows not how. I don’t know why I have to tinker. I love to see the connections of the good and bad things in life and how God bends it to His plan. Tim

I have limited experience of Charismatic prayer group.
One time I attended with a couple of Protestant friends to their Charismatic group. Since I was the new comer for first time, many people gave me word of knowledge. For example, one person said he saw a purple flower, when butterfly comes to it, the pollens are spread to many other places. He saw God’s grace is spread from me to people I contact. I was wearing a purple sweater that day.

Another said she saw God’s grace flows like water fall over me.

Another person said the thing I was diligently working on God would take over and would succeed. There was one thing I was working on hard, God did take over, and it turned out quite successful later. (Nobody knew anything about the thing I was working on, not even the couple who brought me there.)

That’s encouraging and edifying. During that period of time, I was feeling useless to God. I wanted to be his useful instrument so bad but felt useless. Those words were uplifting.

I didn’t continue to attend that group.

I just remembered an example from scripture of that infused interior ‘knowing.’ Remember when Simeon was in the temple and had the prophecy that he would not die until he beheld the Messiah? (Lk. 2:28) Mary in her humility would not have spoken a word to anyone there in the temple about her Divine Son, but Simeon was granted an interior grace to recognize who this babe was, and he rejoiced, praying the Canticle we say in the LOTH.

When we are in the presence of very holy people, our spirits kinda know it sometimes, when not a word is spoken to alert us. This is not the gift of counsel I mentioned previously, but it may be experienced as the gift of understanding or knowledge.

That is interesting. I think I will be alone on this one, my outlook has changed from the first impression, though to a more positive light. The further I look into it, the more confident I am in the Church. Thanks , Tim
