Hope you have had a chance to speak to Father (chances are his phone was ringing off the wall on Monday!).

He will make the proper determination and will take care of properly consecrating any reserved Hosts if necessary.

Interesting. Even if it was a mistake it’s still considered an abuse. I think Father pointed out in this thread that it has to do with intention? And according to the poster of this thread, the priest seems legit?

“Abuse” is intentional.

This sounds as if it were accidental.

Our 86 year old priest makes mistakes at mass. I for one am grateful to have him.

It’s quite a serious abuse.
Looking at it objectively, an abuse happened.
A mistake is not abuse.

If a priest gets mixed up on a mid-week solemnity and forgets to pray the Gloria - no abuse.
If a priest decides that he wants to move things along and omits the Gloria - abuse.

If a priest reads the wrong Gospel because somebody marked the wrong page - no abuse.
If a priest changes the Gospel because he likes another one better - abuse.

If a priest accidentally reverts to the old translation because he prayed that way for 40 years and he’s old and slipped up - no abuse.
If a priest chooses to use the old translation because he feels like the new translation is awkward and too hard to understand - abuse.

If a priest omits one of the prayers of the Mass because he is elderly and easily distracted and a crying baby threw him off (this actually happened) - no abuse.
If a priest omits a prayer of the Mass because he doesn’t like what it says - abuse.

Again, when you look at the liturgy, and particularly the Words of Institution as some sort of spell or incantation to be followed or else we miss out on God delivering his grace to us, I think you have missed the boat on the New Testament.

So long as he said the parts “This is my body” and “This is my blood” and intended to consecrate the bread and wine, the consecration was valid.
Note that the Liturgy of Addai and Mari has been formally found by the Vatican to have a valid Anaphora even though it lacks explicit Words of Institution . . .

deacons help the priests; imho; little question about that…

we have 2 young priests for whom english is not their first language

the deacon (if there is one; which is most, but not every week) most definitely help to keep the “ship” squared away

during the summer, when “everybody” is " away" it seems to me (i could be wrong) that the young priests struggle (just a little bit…)

no disrespect intended

Of course they struggle. Saying Mass in a language that is not your native tongue is really, really hard. The inability to be fluent in Latin historically kept men out of the seminary.

Oh good grief. Its an accident. You can’t accidentally commit abuse. Abuse requires intent. (Willful ignorance is not an excuse and makes actions non-accidental because the intent was to remain ignorant).
