Just wanted to update:). We told my cousin about the situation and offered to contact him ASAP if we cannot make it.

His response kind of baffled me though. He asked us to let him know either way, if we not coming or if we are coming. I thought because we sent the RSVP and are committed to drive 500 miles to attend the wedding, having hotel reservations already, it would be assumed we would come unless I inform them otherwise. Kinda makes me think they have a waiting list or something:shrug:. Weird…but some other things related to this wedding have been bizarre as well.

Thanks everyone for the advice:)!

This does not sound weird at all to me. You technically aren’t “committed”, since there is a chance you won’t be going. When you know for sure either way, even if you are sure you’ll be going, it would be kind to let him know. Weddings can be very expensive, and often couples do not invite people they would like to because of cost. He may be simply trying to ensure that he doesn’t end up with any empty seats, as we did. It was a bit frustrating since there were people we would have liked to have there, and some people who said they were coming never showed. Not really bizarre at all. He invited you, you said “maybe”, and he wants to know either way. 🤷

From someone whose family was in the catering business for many years: the day before the wedding, the cater will double check and ask how many people are attending. That is so they can determine how much food to prepare for the reception. They should always plan to have some extra food just in case.

By responding even a day in advance it can help in the planning and the cost.

Oh definitely! Wish I could’ve RSVP’d my graduation party, it was so hard to predict how many would actually come. My sister is getting married next summer and it is tough deciding on a venue as we don’t know how many family members will actually travel 500 miles to the wedding.

They’ll know for sure about two weeks prior so it hopefully shouldn’t be an issue.
