Earlier today I was reading something about cursing and how to curse God is the worst kind of curse. Anyway, I later had this thought that cursed God.
I did not want to think this and I did not want to curse God.

I get a lot of intrusive thoughts, but I am worried that I may have allowed this thought to come or even purposely called it up. I am not sure if this thought is intrusive. Is this a mortal sin?

It all starts with a thought -
I heard from an alcoholic -
that a thought will pop into their mind
“ I want a drink. Now. “
And he just stops the thought - dead in its track.
He called it - like cutting an electrical wire.

That’s why I don’t care for certain TV programs / movies -
They - actually try to implant thoughts !
“ we fight against principalities - rulers of the air “

I get a lot of intrusive thoughts,
You need to seek out professional help. Intrusive thoughts need therapy help, this is in the OCD family of illness.

Please talk to a professional.

First see your priest. If your priest feels you can benefit from therapy he will tell you so.

A therapist will counsel extensive and exorbitant therapy sessions and often, powerful and unpredictable mind altering psychotropic drugs. A good priest will counsel prayer and more prayer. Intrusive thoughts like these can be prayed away. In fact, they often must be because the root cause is often demonic.

I know all about having intrusive thoughts. Prayer works! How could it not?

Amen. I am totally convinced that the devil and his minions are constantly probing us for weaknesses, like convincing us we are bad for having intrusive thoughts.
We may not be able to control the occurrence of our intrusive thoughts. But we do have control over our response to them. Pray without ceasing! Prayer is extremely powerful!

I also get intrusive thoughts that really get me down but one thing my mom told me to do that sometimes works is scream this(inside your brain louder than the thoughts) “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus” say that in your brain over and over until you forget what you where thinking or your mind wanders somewhere else it Works sometimes other times they just don’t want to go away do they but atleast try it 🙂

Based on my experience, I found that intrusive thoughts
occurred when I was under high stress on the job, of all
things. Once I got away from the people and places that
were stressful, my state of mind slowly improved.

Try to stay strong. When they got really bad with me,
I would go to the restroom and splash cold water
on my face. You can get through this.

These thoughts only have as much power as we give to them. As I said on another thread, a mind full of prayer has no room for intrusive thoughts.

Thanks for your advice! I do notice that since I have been praying the rosary more often, I have had better control over the thoughts. For some reason, reading about serious sins (especially blasphemous ones) seems to trigger them (I guess because I am afraid of doing these sins?) 🙂

Yes, I find they happen most often when I am afraid (of committing a serious sin) The more I try to get rid of them, the worse they get!

The devil hates prayer in general, especially the Rosary. If you’re not in a place where the Rosary is possible, the Hail Mary, the St. Michael Prayer and this simple prayer are equally effective: “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Repeat as often as necessary.

We are not given a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, and of power, and of a sound and disciplined mind.

Sounds like what happens if somebody tells you not to think of a pink elephant.

Exactly.

Op, as far as I know I have an agreement, I will sometimes have intrusive thoughts but I will ignore them if you will.

Worrying about having them makes it worse. I asked God and everyone I pray to to forgive me these thoughts and ignore them if possible and I will do the same and in return never stop trying to get to heaven. I refuse to be frustrated and handicapped by intrusive thoughts which seem to come from out of nothing. I won’t fight them, I will simply ignore them especially since they are not a reflection of my true heartfelt desires…as God knows I’m sure.

Peace be with you OP. God bless.

(As far as these intrusive thoughts are concerned, remember that God hears all and sees all, these things I’m sure don’t shock Him, it may be saddening but there is nothing new under the sun to God.)

I second this.

On a personal note, I used to get them a lot with my wonderful anxiety disorder. I can’t say where it was that they faded out of consciousness, but it seems that these days I’m having success with what Seagull told you and with doing it almost automatically
He called it - like cutting an electrical wire.
As to your spiritual concern, I once heard a lady ask a ND radio preacher if she had blasphemed the Holy Spirit; I forget the exact verbiage, but your post reminds me of the gist of her question. The ND guy said that if she was asking that question, then she most likely hadn’t.

Hope that helps and Merry Christmas!

We can not control all of our thoughts, some are just impulsive. God judges us on what we aftually do, what we chose to do. Mortal sin involves free will to chose to do it. Clearly this isn’t the case here and isn’t an issue. I’m not even sure what thought you could have that would curse God? I believe you are being scrupulous. God isn’t the person who wants to find any little thing and go “HA! Got you there!” No, He loves us and wants us to love him and follow him. He isn’t looking to ‘get you’ so don’t assume every little thing is a mortal sin, that’s not how it works at all

How do you define “work”? To quote an overused cliché many people use: God answers all prayers; sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes no, sometimes not now. If the answer is no how do we explain that a prayer “worked”?

Ok, thanks these responses have been helpful-I think it might be scrupulousness or maybe ocd…
