Curses-Church and God's view

I know this may sound crazy and I didn’t know what topic to put it under, but it pertains to my family.
Does the church and God have any views on curses? I know whichcraft is definitely against the views, but the question is, if someone puts a curse on you or wishes your life and family to be cursed, is that possible?
I kind of look at it as a form of the devil working, but can a human really put someone’s life in that place? Both my husband and myself do not believe in any form of whichcraft or curses, but someone a long time ago told my husband he and his family would be cursed because he did not continue a relationship with this person. Basically they were scorned and had put this out there. At the time, him and I did not know each other and his faith was not as strong as it is know as a family unit. As I am writing this it sounds crazy, but things have been happening in our life and to our children and he told me this was said to him a long time ago.
Any views on this would be helpful. In no way has it altered our faith, and we do continue to trust God and pray for the best for our family. It is just something that we wondered about because it seems we have really been tested and think maybe the devil is at work. But we will remain strong and united through anything.

I would imagine that they are real, considering the fact that the old Roman Ritual (the book with all the blessings) actually had curses in it as well. Curses against pests and such, but curses nonetheless. Then there’s the exorcism ritual and excommunication. I guess you could say curses against storms are there as well.
 
Yes, curses are very real. They work by the intervention of demons. It is rediculously easy for a Christian to get rid of a curse though, pray, go to confession, get blessed, take communion.
Demons can be a nuisance but they have no power over you if you deal with your own personal sin.

My wife grew up in the 3rd world where pagans of various stripes place curses on others regularly, causes no end of misery there.
 
Oh, absolutely. I have relatives who have told me about their firsthand experiences with curses. (For what that’s worth… "someone on the internet says they knew someone who knew someone who was cursed! :p) There are several other people I know of who I wouldn’t be surprised if they had dealings with curses… some curses you can draw upon yourself by doing x, y, and z; other times you can be cursed by a third party. (You can read up on exorcism accounts to hear how you can get involved with the first kind.)

How often do you read about curses in the Old Testament and the New Testament?

For something a little less supernatural, there’s the concept of “generational curses.” You can see it in action yourself-- how things like poverty, abuse, crime, and certain sins can travel from one generation to the next. The abused child of one generation grows up to become the abuser of the next, for one example. It can take a tremendous amount of work and energy to break free from a generational curse, but it’s quite possible.

A curse is wishing evil to befall a person, kind of a reverse of praying for a person. It is the wish that is evil. Curses as an thing having an adverse effect on a person is only real if the person they are aimed at believes in them. Kind of a self fulfilling prophesy. A Christian can laugh them off as they enjoy the protection of Christ and His angels but as Christ taught should pray for the person who hates them.
 
Maybe there are curses maybe not. I tend to think of it as something best left alone unless someone thinks they are under a curse and wants to get rid of it in that case if I were them I would consult a priest and maybe even an exorcist if needed.

Is there any evidence that there are curses, besides personal accounts? If not, safe to say - no curses.
 
Just pray for the person that had such a heart filled with hate that she wanted to harm your husband.

The word curse is used 178 times in the bible.
 
Christians are children of God. No child of God needs to fear a curse. God is not bound by curses. The only curse you need to fear is God’s judgment at the end of the world.

Somebody who believes they’re under a curse is going to see any misfortune as related to that curse, just like somebody who believes in Murphy’s Law is going to see misfortune as just something that’s bound to happen sometimes.

Believe in God’s real blessings, not in silly human curses.

I don’t know???

I do know, in some instances, the Book refers to God cursing men.
