I agree that the fruitfulness of the retreat depends on the director. But the retreat itself is fairly strict, and it’s all about the Holy Spirit. I have no doubt that He guides the Cursillo movement very closely!
A little more than a year ago, my friend had come back from living in NYC living a promiscuous and, quite frankly, a crude life (i don’t mean to put her down, but this is how she’d want me to put it!). She reluctantly went into a Cursillo weekend, and came out a completely different person. She is probably the most humble person I know. I won’t doubt it if she would become a canonized saint! In fact, she’s soon to become a novitiate in the religious life. She changed our whole youth ministry at our parish, and made better a lot of lives. In that way, the Cursillo had already done good for me, and at the time I hadn’t even gone into the retreat yet.
That’s just one story. The Cursillo can do a world of good, but at the same time, you get what you put in as they say.
Basically, the Cursillo is a good start. To foster it is up to you, even with the ultreyas and group reunions.
